This 2003 Sundowner Valuelite 2H straight load with dressing room came in recently for us to show as a private sale. The owners no longer need to transport horses, so it’s time for it to go to a new home.
We describe it as “XL” in the subject line because it’s eXtra Long. The horse area, at nearly 12 feet by our tape, is about 1.5 feet longer than standard. The 5’ dressing room is 1’ longer than standard. (And we know this because the trailer owners thoughtfully left their 2003 brochure with us!) That’s plenty of extra space in a size that’s still very easy to handle. Body width is a generous 6’9” and body height is a big-horse-friendly 7’6”.
The bright and airy horse area has 2 windows per side (2 of which are in the escape doors), a window at the front and vents overhead – great for natural light and ventilation. There are escape doors and running boards on both sides for easy access and the ramp is very easy to lift thanks to an effective spring assist. Another appreciated feature is the ramp’s very grippy mat.
The chest bars have spring-loaded latches and a feature we like is the V-notched wall plates that guide the chest bars into place quickly and easily. There’s a removable manger bag at each stall and the head divider is easily removed without tools.
For the safety and comfort of your horses, lower walls are matted and walls, stall divider, chest bars & butt bars are all padded. The walls are lined and judging by the dull sound when we thumped them, they appear to be insulated as well. It’s a well-equipped horse area.
A wide running board aids entry to the large 5’ dressing room. The lockable door features a tall sliding window and brush tray. There’s a large sliding window on each side of the gooseneck and a window in the back wall for additional air flow into the horse area. Access to the upper gooseneck is aided by a folding step. (That may seem a minor detail, but try climbing into a gooseneck without a step!) Along the back wall, there’s a blanket bar and four groups of 3 tack hooks – 3 left and 3 right at about waist high and 3 left and 3 right near the top of the wall. There’s also a crank-up roof vent. It's a well-equipped DR to complement the well-equipped horse area.
The interior is clean and the floor is solid. Four new Load Range D radials were just mounted. As a Valuelite, it has aluminum skin over a steel frame. The coating on the frame has peeled in many areas and there’s surface rust, which is not uncommon, but we did notice some deterioration where the aluminum skin meets the steel frame above the axles. We’ve included a couple of pictures showing these spots.
Stop by and check out this affordable, extra roomy and well-equipped Sundowner 2H gooseneck!
