Here's a Fautras Provan Premium 2H straight load. It's sized for horses to the 16 hand range and is designed to be pulled safely by many of today's fuel-saving mid-sized SUVs and trucks. Body length is 10 feet, interior height is 7'5" and interior width is 64 inches. *** There's a lot to like about the Provan Premium, but the one feature that really caught our attention is the patented AID System butt bars. If you have an impatient horse that won't wait for you to get the butt bars up, the Provan Premium has BUTT BARS YOU CAN CONTROL FROM THE FRONT OF THE TRAILER! (More on the AID System and other clever features later.) *** The empty weight of the Provan is approximately 1980 lbs. Possibly even more important if you're going to be towing with a smaller vehicle, the tongue weight should never exceed 154 lbs. (Compare to 400-500 lbs. tongue weight typical of domestic 2H trailers.) It may sound contradictory at first, but the Provan is loaded with innovative features while being very simple at the same time. We'll get into the details of the Provan's clever (and very practical) design shortly, but first, some background on Fautras trailers. *** The Fautras family of France has been involved in the horse industry for over a century. In 1992, after years of selling trailers from other manufacturers, they had a "we can do this better" moment and decided to design and produce their own line of horse trailers. Nearly 20 years later, the company holds many international patents and has received industry awards for innovation. Fautras has a presence in over 25 countries and decided in 2010 that it was time to bring their innovative and practical designs to America. *** And now back to the Provan... There's a lot to cover and limited space, so we'll list features as bullet items. Here goes... ***** AID System Butt Bars -YOU CAN RELEASE & SECURE THEM WHILE YOU'RE STANDING NEAR YOUR HORSE'S HEAD! If you have an impatient horse that doesn't like to wait for you to put normal bars up or down, you need to see the AID System. (See the series of pictures with this writeup. Also see the link to a video at the end of this destcription. AID System can also be released at rear.) * The AID System can be used whether you're loading or unloading. The AID System is controlled by a simple handle & lever recessed into the wall structure for each stall. The AID System is Patented and an innovation award winner! ***** Progressive Floor System - No Ramp Required! The Provan floor steps down gradually toward the rear, to produce a relatively low step at the rear of the trailer * And while we're talking floor - Fautras trailers feature a Polyethylene ROTPROOF floor with bonded rubber mat covering. YOU DON'T NEED TO REMOVE THE MAT TO CLEAN THE FLOOR! * The Provan Premium has a wide, full-height groom door on each side. The doors are large enough that, if necessary, you can unload through them. When open, there's plenty of light & ventilation - very inviting! * Another groom door feature - truck-style cam latch secures each door open or closed - No need to worry about breezes blowing your doors closed because of ineffective tiebacks! * 2-position rear doors: 1) Open them fully out to the sides (180 degrees) or, 2) Open them approximately 90 degrees (nearly straight back) to act as a chute or guide * Each rear door features a slide-down panel for light & ventilation - simpler than a window and creates an opening about twice the size of a typical window * Innovation - Each rear door has a holdback that catches as you open the door (and yes, we know the stick & socket "holdback" works in one motion), but this one holds! Release the latch with your toe. (If you've ever had breeze blow a door closed on you, you'll appreciate the beauty of this simple & effective door holdback. It may be a small thing, but it demonstrates the thought and user-friendliness in Fautras designs.) * Optional tack locker swings out with the groom door. Large enough to hold 2 Western saddles. * Large fixed window & vent in nose of trailer for light & ventilation * Sliding window with guard in each groom door - more light & ventilation! * Rugged galvanized steel chassis - Steel for strength, galvanized for corrosion protection * One feature we hope no one needs to use is the rollover protection integrated into the structure of the trailer. There's an arch of galvanized steel tube at the rear opening and a "backbone" of similar material along the roof centerline. The groom door openings are framed in yet more galvanized steel. Additionally, the rear doors are framed in galvanized steel and there are stiffening frames behind the stall pads as well. For a lightweight trailer, there's a good deal of structure! (We've included some detail shots so you can take a look.) * Fiberglass walls & roof - tough, light and not prone to rot or rust. (The same reasons most boats since the 1960s have been made of fiberglass.) * Hard Polypropylene panels on lower walls and rear doors for reinforcement & kick protection * Easily removable stall divider hardware, including FAUTRAS TECH flexible stall partition * Smooth acting Inertia mechanical brakes - as the vehicle brakes, the trailer applies its brakes AUTOMATICALLY in proportion to the load in the trailer and YOU DON'T NEED A BRAKE CONTROLLER IN THE TOW VEHICLE! There's even a parking brake (for short-term use only) * Smooth-riding torsion axles with shock absorbers (you won't find shock absorbers on most trailers) * Radial tires * Spare tire & wheel * Bright, reliable LED tail and marker lights * Anthracite (dark) Grey trailer shown here is ASSEMBLED in the USA! * Coupler status indicator - On the side of the coupler, you'll see Minus, Plus and "X" indicators. When the pointer is on the "Plus," the coupler is secure on the hitch ball. If the pointer is on Minus or "X," the ball is too small or too large or something isn't quite right, so check the connection again. You still have to pay attention when connecting the trailer to the vehicle, but the status indicator is a nice touch to help you with the task. *** Here's a link to a Fautras video demonstrating the AID System butt bars:
