We recently took this very nice Sundowner Charter SE 2H straight load gooseneck in trade toward a new Böckmann. Unless you're a Sundowner dealer (we're not, and you're probably not), you may not know just from the model name if the trailer has an aluminum frame or steel frame or what. So we'll eliminate the guesswork with this one. It has an aluminum skin over an aluminum frame and a floor of extruded aluminum planks. Aluminum, aluminum and aluminum. Long-lasting materials. It rides on torsion-axle independent suspension with radial tires (including spare) mounted on stylish aluminum alloy wheels. (The trailer came in with the spare stored in the dressing room as seen in some views, but there is a spare mount in the popular spot under the gooseneck.)
And with the "What's it made of?" out of the way, let's talk about features...
By our tape, the floor length is an easy-to-maneuver 14.5 feet, with 10.5' for the horses and 4' for the dressing room. Body height is 7'6" and body width is 6'9"; plenty of room for large horses. (We measured carefully, but all dimensions are approximate.)
At the rear, the easy-to-lift ramp has a very effective spring assist. The nubby-textured ramp mat is grippy, even in wet conditions. The horse area is bright and well-ventilated, thanks to all-around windows (at the sides, in the escape doors, and in the rear curtain doors). There's a pair of 2-way roof vents at the front of each stall. The see-through bar-type head divider and stall divider upper section allow good air flow and contribute to the open feeling in the horse area. For the comfort and safety of your horses, walls, stall divider and chest & butt bars are padded and there are the expected kick panels and floor mats. Convenience features for the horse handlers include wide escape doors and running boards on both sides.
Dressing room features include two contoured saddle racks, a blanket bar, several bridle hooks and a brush tray on the door. The door is lockable and has a window. Access to the DR is aided by one of those previously-mentioned running boards (don't take running boards for granted!). There's a good-sized window on each side of the gooseneck and there's a lip at the rear of the upper GN, a thoughtful touch to help keep items from sliding off onto the floor.
Other nice touches include an LED porch light at the DR, a pair of LED loading lights at the rear. LED marker lights, 4 bright LED tail/stop lights, LED interior lights and integrated locks on the ramp & curtain door latches.
We invite you to stop by and check out this very clean, well-equipped Sundowner 2H gooseneck!
