Description: Traveled Lane Trailers, Inc

It would have been nice if we could have listed this trailer without filling in the model year field. This is one of those trailers where it's best to look at the trailer before learning its age. Why? Because from the outside, this 2000 Hawk could easily be mistaken for a lightly used 1 or 2 year old trailer. It's been extremely well cared for.

This Hawk 2H straight load bumper pull just came in for us to show as a private sale for the original owners.   It’s been stored under roof for its entire life (at least until it was brought to our dealership a short time ago). and was treated to a $3000 paint job in 2017. We say it was stored "under roof" because the structure had no sides. The trailer had a bit of fade, so the meticulous owners had it painted. It was a $3000 paint job and it shows. Very neat. Nice gloss. Crisp edges on the stripes.

This one received fresh radial tires with new galvanized rims a few years ago and has seen light use since then.  The pricey paint job and recent tires & rims should give you an idea of the type of care it has received. It’s bright & roomy and features aluminum skin over a galvanneal (corrosion-protected) steel frame.  The owners no longer need to transport their horses, so it’s time for the trusty & pampered Hawk to go to a new home.

This trailer was a custom order and the owners specified an extra foot of space in the forward area.    By our tape, the body length is 13’ including the V-nose.   The V-nose splits the air, but it’s a broad V, so it contributes to the usable space.  We measured nearly 6’ from the horse side of the chest bar pads to the center of the nose; plenty of working and storage space forward.   We measured a usable stall length of 78” from butt bar pad to chest bar pad.  (Considering that they’re thick pads, that’s a generous stall length.  Without the pads, it’s probably 84” from butt bar to chest bar.)   We use the term “usable stall length” because stall lengths in brochures often ignore the space lost to butt & chest bars and pads.     The stalls in this Hawk are probably equivalent to an 88” or 90” brochure stall length.   (And remember, don’t directly compare blanket size to stall length, as the blanket size includes several inches for wraparound.)   By our tape, body height is 7’4” and body width is 6 feet.   This Hawk offers plenty of space for even warmbloods to ride comfortably.

Light and ventilation are very good thanks to an abundance of large windows and a pair of 2-way roof vents.   There’s an escape door on each side for easy access to the generous forward space.   For the safety and comfort of your horses, walls, stall divider, butt & chest bars boast generous padding and the lower walls and floor are matted.  There’s an easily removable head divider and a pair of manger bags.  Hawk’s chassis design makes possible a low ramp angle for comfortable loading & unloading and the ramp lift effort is very reasonable.   The ramp has a nubby mat that offers excellent traction.   In addition to the recent paint, tires and galvanized rims, the ramp’s plywood panel has been replaced.   The floor boards look essentially as they would have when the trailer was built.   (The mats were pulled out in a couple of shots so you can see the floor boards.

For as long as we can remember, Hawk has promoted the corrosion-protected galvanneal steel frames on their trailers.   A possibly oversimplified way to describe the process is that steel is dipped in molten zinc and then raised to an elevated temperature (annealed) to create a bond between the steel and the zinc.    We don’t have any brochures on this particular trailer, but the underside structure is so clean and unblemished that we have to believe that this trailer has the galvanneal steel structure Hawk is known for.   The walls are lined and smooth and we believe the lining is painted galvanneal steel.  The exterior skin is aluminum and the roof is fiberglass.   With the lined walls, this should be a quiet trailer.

Spring isn’t that far off and with Spring comes the rush of shoppers looking to get a new or “new to them” trailer for the upcoming season of shows and trail rides.   Every once in a while, a trailer comes along that is in such good condition that it just stands out.   This Hawk is one of them.  Beat the crowd.   Stop by.  Check it out.   (And buy it!)   Private Sale on Display at Traveled Lane.
