This Merhow has so many features and options it’s hard to decide where to begin, but here goes…
We recently took this all-aluminum Merhow in trade on a new Böckmann. If you want the convenience of tack space in your trailer but don’t want to deal with the length of a large dressing room trailer, this might be the trailer for you. It has a warmblood-sized horse area, but with the compact (yet well-equipped) dressing room, it’s not much longer than a regular 2H bumper pull.
By our tape, body length is approximately 14.5 feet, with about 10’8” devoted to the horse area. Body width is a generous 6’8” and since we measure 7’4” to the lined & insulated ceiling, body height is actually about 7’6”. The bright & inviting horse area is lined & insulated. This trailer has an abundance of windows, an escape door and running board on each side, roof vents, fans and more.
This very clean Merhow has an aluminum frame & skin and extruded aluminum plank floor. The stall divider and head divider have bars instead of solid panels, contributing to the open, airy feeling of the inviting interior.
Walls, stall divider, butt bars and chest panels are padded. The hinged chest panels swing out easily and are equipped with easy-to-use latches. The vent and fan at the front of each stall supplements the natural air flow afforded by this trailer’s abundance of windows. The very effective spring assist on the ramp produces a light lift effort.
By our tape, the dressing room measures approximately 44”from the V of the nose to the back wall. Even though it’s compact, the DR is laid out efficiently and is very well equipped. There are 4 folding saddle racks, 16 bridle hooks, two very nice swing-out blanket bars, a clothing rod and brush tray on the door. The radial spare tire is tucked up against the front wall, out of the way and out of the weather.
The original owner of this trailer used a weight distribution hitch. Because of the depth of the stacked-channel tongue, a special weight distribution unit costing about $600 was installed. That Reese weight distribution hitch comes with the trailer.
