Hi,
I am new to trailer ownership as I was given a 93 Valley steel 2H BP trailer by a friend. Has new tires, new brakes and was repainted 4 years ago. But - there is major structural weakness in the steel crossbar at the ramp edge of the trailer and in other places as well. Needs new floor. Trailer repair place here in Western Ma said would cost $2000 to get everything in order. I would love some advice about what would be best. Repair it and keep or sell it and buy something else in the 2500 price range.

Our usage is light, down the road to a friend's for trail riding and 5-10 miles away for clinics or more trail riding.
Thanks for any advice or insight!
Suzanne

Keep it and get it fixed. Then you'll pretty much know what you got. Sell it, and spend $2500.00 on something else, that may be in worse shape than what you have before your repairs. If you could find an all aluminum trailer for a couple or three thousand, then that would be the way to go...... But that ain't about to happen!! These little two horse aluminum trailer are bringing premium prices, now days.

That's true,we gave $7500 for our '95 Sooner aluminum 2H slant BP.I have a steel trailer for sale, and I can tell you that I am asking more than what it would cost you to repair yours at the price you were quoted.I'd fix it and live with it were it me unless I came across a real deal close to me.

If its fixable then you'd be money ahead to do so rather than spend even more for yet another that, in the price range, wouldn't be a step up. You aren't going to get much for 2500 bucks.

if its an occasional trailer you'd get your money worth but if you find you need more trailer, then you can start shopping.

I would make the decsions based on if the trailer meets your needs.  Is it tall enough?  Is the horse area roomy enough?  Does it have a tack area that meets your minimum requirements?  You wont get much for 2500 and many used trailers need a lot of work, but it is a waste to fix this one up unless it will suit your needs.
