Hi!

Does anyone have suggestions on adding a screen to a DR door? My trailer doesnt have a camper (screen) door and manufacturer says they can't replace due to shape (I have an older style). I was also told that a retractable door wouldn't be an option. I had read a post on this forum a while back about one that rolled up and had velcro around the sides? Can't seem to find those posts anymore.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have seen what you are talking about in catalogs such as improvementscatalog.com or might even try cabelas or campingworld. Good luck.

Out of curiosity...why wouldn't the retractable screen be an option?

I was told when I bought the trailer they couldnt install one. It's one of the older 4Star trailers w/ the square door. Something about there being a lip and the placement of door vs the GN wall? I can't remember exactly what they said, all I got out of the conversation was that they couldnt install one. That was a year ago. I did speak to a 4 Star dealer and asked if the door could be replaced w/ a camper - they said no.

Build it out around the door frame to give you the clearance needed. 1" boards should give you the needed clearance.

Sounds like I'd have to hire someone to do that. UGH. I wish I was craftier. I think I'd also have to cut into part of my boot box, even then I'm not sure with where the door is placed (smack dab in the center of the DR) a full size screen would have room to fully slide in. I will have to measure.

Thanks for the tip - if it works that would be ideal.

Some Lowe's and Home Depot stores have them in stock so you can take a look at one.

Good luck!

Have you called 4 Star, the manufacturing plant? I bet they can tell you what to do.

I can't really imagine a retractable one not fitting, it only takes up 2-3 inches at one side where it rolls up and slides in a track to the other side.

Retractable won't work in mine, will fit but won't work, due to the hydraulic hinge up top that lets the door open and close slow. Plus the hinges it sets on, I could cut them off, but did the screen that rolls up, I have one in mine and I love it. You can see it below in my trailer tackroom fix album...........You can also see what I'm talking about with mine in the pics too..............

I got mine at http://www.longridersgear.com/

Cowpony- that screen is exactly what I am talking about. Thanks! From the looks of your trailer fix you were battling some serious leaks. Me too. Since the dealership couldnt find the leaks (after 5 tries) we decided to tackle it ourselves and spent most of yesterday and today pulling apart the paneling and insulation, sawing pieces of aluminum off and spraying the thing with water. We FINALLY have it narrowed down. Fun fact of the night: you can get a buzz off of silicone. Who knew?

LO!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah, you gotta be carefull about that stuff! Post some pics of your extravaganza  maybe some before and after, or just of it now when ya get done.......

By the way, no leaks in mine, and it's pretty comfy in the mountains, I love it, the trailer I dreamed of having when younger in my gymkhana days. Now I'm older and a broken up ranchers wife that takes off on the weekends to the mountains to camp and ride.
