Help! I underestimated the width of my horse and underestimated the stall widths on my slant load trailer. Anyway, I'm thinking of looking into a 2+1 arrangement which will give me the ability to haul 3 if I need it and will also allow me to have a nice area to set up for camping and what not.  What trailer manufacturers make the 2+1?  I think Merhow, Sundowner, Kiefer Built do but am interested if any others are out there. Thanks for any help!!

Exiss makes them. If you are interested in steel,(galvanized)Trail-et, Hawk make steel with alum walls I believe. They have fiberglass roofs and you can get the rumber floor option as well. I am looking at this floor option as well. The most affordable one I have seen, Keifer. $18K or so.

C&C make a very good 2+1 trailer...

2008 C&C 23 ft, rear and side ramps
7 wide 7'8 high, 2 straight stalls and box stall in front, fans, rear and side ramps.

Here are some more photos...

I have a Hawk 2+1 and love it. The space is very flexible and the front stall is much larger than a standard slant. My kids' pony can almost stand sideways. I usually haul 2 horses, but haul 3 often enough to make it worth having. I love being able to get to all 3 horses and let the bigger horses ride in straight stalls.

Merhow has a very nice 2+1 with some great features. And they have one of there best dealers within 20-25 miles of you.  Take the time to give that trailer a good look.

For those that have the 2+1, how are the rear horses kept from chewing on the front horse?  Is there a divider/bars to protect the first horse?

This picture is in the +1 compartment looking rearward...

In fact, I can remove the rear divider and create two box stalls when at smaller shows that do not offer stall rentals...

Thanks for all the input!  It seems that the 2+1 is a great concept but unless I can find one used I think they are going to be out of my price range.  Jeepers, the search goes on!

Thanks Paul.  I have 4 horses so this type of trailer really doesn't fit us, but I've wondered about protecting the first horse from his buddies.  I know not all horses will mess with the horse in front of them but with my husbands mare that anything that really annoys her, like mosquitos is the fault of what ever horse is in front of her at the time and she punishes them for it.

We sell quite a few 2+1 goosenecks, both in the Hawk and Dream Coach brands.  The Hawk 2+1 has a slant divider that positions the front horse far enough forward that the rear horses can not reach him.  We always add a box stall divider, full height with mesh on the top half, that can be opened up to make a full width and full height wall between the rear straight load horses and the front horse(s).  It makes two nice box stalls also when the rear divider is removed and the slant divider pinned back against the wall.  We also put the side ramp on the right hand side so that there is room to load a golf cart, driving vehicle, etc.  When the ramp is at the slant stall front, the bulkhead divider wall prevents loading such vehicles.   E mail me privately for more information or pictures, etc.

My new 2+1 built by Trail-et arrived last night, been wanting one for two years.  I purchased this floor plan because of its flexibility, but mainly to have two boxes for hauling broodmares with foals.  Also handy for hauling my kids to small local shows because I can put two ponies in the forward area and the two horses in the back.  Keep looking - used ones pop up from time to time.  There's a 2005 Trail-et Windshadow Eventor advertised on HTW right now.  It's located in VA.  Good luck!
