I'm hoping to get some advice.  I've looked through the internet for the past few days, but cannot find a trailer like mine for comparison.  I have a late 80's (I believe it is a Spirit) 6 horse head-to-head trailer (no LQ) 7'6" tall.  It is aluminum skin over steel frame.  The interior is stained hardwood with oak floors covered by 1" mats.  It is wired for and includes 2 cameras.  It is in good shape - but has some cosmetic issues given it's age - structurally it is a VERY solid trailer. 

I need a 2 horse bumper pull with DR that is at least 7' tall.  Am I better off trying to do an even trade at a local trailer dealership or selling outright?  What should I ask for the trailer - private and/or at a dealer?  Oh - and yes, I plan on listing the trailer on HTW as well - I just don't know the $$ yet!

I wouldn't think your trailer (area depending) would be worth more than about $6K.  You can do better by trading it in considering:

1.  The tax advantages...you won't pay taxes on the sale of your old trailer.

2.  The trailer is gone, no running ads and dealing with buyers and hassling if their money is good, etc.

I would doubt that you can get more for the trailer in private sale and cover the difference in #1 listed above.  #2 depends on how much you value your time.

The problem with trading DOWN...is that the dealer will probably undervalue your trade-in otherwise he'll, get almost NO cash and the problem of having to sell a USED trailer...
