Do you have one end of the bootbox that is not a hinged lid that you could make an additional step higher or could you modify your lid and use part of the box to add a step? Another option is to add a ladder type step to the gooseneck wall and/or add a coule of pull handles on the trailer ceiling so you can get a handhold. If you go this route, make sure you fasten these into some structure (like aluminum framework) so they dont pull out when you are using them..could cause you to fall. You might want to check out a marine catalog like West Marine online to see if they have a step or handrails that you could use. If you look at Lowes or HomeDepot, they usually have some handrails in the bath section that are used for handicapped access..these might work.

Most of the big box stores also sell individual steps made like the Rubbermaid brand. They can be used as a portable device or screwed down for a more permanent application

I am also short and 'fluffy'. This is what I did to my box. My trailer came with a flip down step...the tiniest thing you have ever seen. I can't imagine anyone using it! I built a box that goes the entire width of the floor, minus the area for a cabinet, with a hinged lid that is about 16 inches tall, then another small box that is on one end that adds another 11 or 12 inches...can't remember the exact height. It also has a hinged lid so the entire box is storage. I wanted it big enough that anyone getting out of bed in the middle of the night wouldn't have to hunt too hard for the taller step. I should go take a photo of it for you... Here you go...

I was just at a boat show and quite a few of the boats had fold down, compacting ladders that would work well. They would fold up and out of the way when not in use.

Our Sierra LQ has a similar box at the bottom,but not the corner piece.There is a corner type cabinet that holds a flat screen TV and storage for the table,ect.beside it.I couldn't reach the GN bed by standing on the box myself.My husband put a sturdy cabinet handle on the cabinet next to it,and we use a wide step fold out by Rubbermaid.But,I really like this idea of yours! Maybe I'll try it!

Take it from a girlfriend who knows...(been from size 6 to 16 twice now). build a little 2X4X10" shoebox. cover it with faux leather or something and make it removable so you can hide it away... and put it on the boot box when needed. I am on low carb diet on my way back down (again). My husband is 6'4" and wears 32wX38 inseam jeans...he was born without a butt. It is not fair is it??
