I am trying to find out what the going rate is for hauling is. Does the mileage charge include the dry run back to your starting point. The trip would be from Atlanta to Fort Lauderdale. Thanks

I asked a few places this last week about hauling a trailer for me & the prices were about $1.30-$1.75/mi. depending on what the gas prices were in that area. I did not check FL/GA area this was OK to KS, MO to KS, & TX to KS. All of the dealers that I called only charged one way (from their dealership to my house). Best thing to do is call around in your area to get more accurate pricing.

I'm currently getting quotes for hauling one horse - pick-up in Tupelo, MS to Parkland, FL - there are quite a few companies to choose from and it takes time to sort out all the options. They will provide quotes and so far I've got one outta sight one and two that are very close.
It helps to talk to friends on who they recommend as well. It appears that the pick-up and deliver dates will be a big deciding factor among the ones I am getting quotes from.

Dunior, What kind of numbers are you getting? Per mile, per trip? If so what per mile number are you getting. I'm not sure how this is done since some trips will be empty going back Thanks

I've gotten flat rates for the trip. $600 - $695 which I think is pretty reasonable as it's about 940 miles. got one quote for special service - box stall, only horse in the trailer, stops 3-4 hours, etc but it was rather far out of my price range

Dunoir, Thanks for the information. It appears to be .67cents per mile (approx). Seems cheap as gas prices are forever changing. I guess I will try to fill load going and coming. Again Thanks

sorry element, i misunderstood your question... but wow... since I don't currently have a trailer I have been checking prices on horse transportation in my area in order to make it to a clinic & I was quoted 1.50/mi. to haul 1 horse both ways. It was over $600 total to haul my horse 6 hours total (3 hour drive ea. way or a little over 200 mi. ea. way)! Are your gas prices lower than the midwest?

You misunderstand what the others are involved in...Shipping a horse at the convience of the shipper Not the owner...most shippers will consolidate a load of horses to reduce their costs...
Whereas, in your case, you are shipping a single horse to a specific event on specific dates...it is much more difficult for the shipper to consolidate thoses kinds of loads...unless there are several people who are going to the same clinic and won't or can't trailer their own horses...therefore the higher cost...
