Heard some rumors that Ponderosa may not be open this year to horses. Called their number and spoke to the foreman. He said the place will be open for the charity ride at the end of March, but might not be available for riding after April 1. The new owners seem to be having difficulty with the bank. It will be very unfortunate if Ponderosa trails closes especially after so many new improvements have been made... larger stalls, well marked and new trails, etc. I sure hope this campground continues to cater to horses and not just RVs as the rumors have been stating.

After talking to all my friends there, sounds like a done deal! Shame, have rode there for many years. Sounds like new owner my have just bought the camp grounds and no other land-rumor has it. Here come the RV's. Will be alot more primitive camping up on the park. No camping down at Graig-O-Lea any more either.

Somebody contact Huckleberry Stables up on KK Hwy... ask them... we have ridden there and Pineville... and done primitive camping nearby.... Whar would they be thinkin??> RV only campers wouldn't need to go down there to the bottoms and camp/ why don't they keep their sissy butts in TOWN and let people who are regulars enjoy the trails and nature.

Rick is a good friend and he is the one that gave me the info along with others. Rick pretty much is in the know on what is taking place around there and has a good relationship with the owner at Ponderosa. Wish there was something we could do-just need to hit the lottery!! Hope some of this is rumor.

What happened to the campground at Craig-O-Lea just across the low-water bridge. I was up there the other day and everything is blocked off, with no camping. Did the guy that owned it, sell out or something?

William, the owner now lives in Texas. And the property is for sale. I have not been down there for awhile, but last time it was fenced off with no trespassing signs. Since he owned down to the river, guess it is basically private property. They want an ungodly amount of money for the place. the places to ride are running out. I love to ride in the Huckleberry and the river was a great watering spot. Somebody needs to hit the lottery. later

That's too bad, I know when we camped there last spring, that he had put in some sites with electric. I did get annoyed with his horses running loose and coming up and bothering mine. I wish Mike, that originally owned it, would buy it back. We've camped on that beach for years. Nothing better then coming back from a ride, and swimming in the creek.

Dozerdan, do the places on top have water for the horses, or do you need to bring your own. I don't remember ever seeing anywhere to get water up there.

They are strictly primitive. No water and no electric. we usually camp at the last site east of Rick's. The sites are right on K highway. Maybe some day we can get the forest service to at least put in a water hydrant at each site-don't know.
