Anyone with generator experience, I really need some help. I finally have  some money set aside for a generator and can't get clear information on what I really need.  Know I want quiet, portable to run small LQ (30 amp) with roof AC/heat strip, 1000watt microwave, on-demand water pump, lights and I plan to add a radio.

A dealer told me Onan doesn't make a portable large enough for me.

Is a 3000 watt big enough?  4500 watt?  do I need the inverter model?  Honda has a EX4500SK1, would this do the job?

Are those of you who have the Kipor brand happy with it?  What size and where did you get it?

Any help is appreciated.

I have the Yamaha EF2000 which is a 2400 Watt peak invertor type generator.

I can run my Micro wave, A/C, hot water heater, But not all at the same time. It works fine for me to charge my batteries, run microwave to heat up some chilli or pop popcorn, I run a small portable DVD movie. It's 70 lbs and pretty quite 54 decibels.

If you want to run you A/C and other appliances at the same time, step up to the larger 3000 or 4000 watt units. I rarely use the A/C, so it's no big deal for me to turn it off for few minutes while I fix dnner.

I have the Kipor 3500ti and it's FANTABULOUS!

It's not big enough to run the AC and micro at the same time.  I just turn off the AC to pop some popcorn, etc.  No biggie.
Normally I have the AC, TV and DVD on and it works beautifully.

Yes, get the inverter model (yellow).  It has "clean" power and is safe for laptops and sensitive electronics.  I have an LCD TV in my trailer.

Look at the Yamaha and the Honda inverter models. I have a Yamaha EF3000iSEB, 3500 watt surge, 2800-3000 running watts. 57 dBA at full load, about as quiet as you will find and it sips fuel. It will run what you got listed just fine. Honda builds a EU3000is, about the same gen-set as the Yamaha. The Honda is a 3000 watt surge and 2800 running watts, 58 dBA at full load. I have not dealt with Kipor, so someone alse will have to sell you on those.

I have a honda EU3000. It runs everything with ease. I usually put it near the tires and hardly hear it. I can run all night on 1 tank of fuel. My only down fall with it, is that it weighs to much for me to unload alone....

The EU3000is maintains the impressive rating of 48 to58dB (less than that of common speech even at rated load), and it will run for up to 20 hours on a single tank of gas when used with the Eco-Throttle feature. This impressive generator provides 3000 watts of power and weighs only 134lbs. The Honda Inverter Technology makes this generator ideally suited for use with sensitive electronics (e.g., computer, fax, printer, telephone, stereo) because the generator produces a clean sine wave of energy that results in no surging. To prevent any possible damage to the unit, the Oil Alert will shut the unit off when the oil drops below a safe operating level. The available power is commonly used for the following typical electric devices:
• Full Size Micro Wave Ovens
• Larger Power Tools i.e. circular saw
• Resistive Load Kitchen Appliances (i.e. Coffee Maker, Toaster)
• Roof Top RV Air Conditioner
• Emergency Home Back up power where no 220 power is required

There was a significant thread on this subject some time ago and with a little research, should be easy to locate.  If I remember correctly....Honda and Yamaha first, then Kipor, then Onan and so on.

I purchased a 4000W generator off Ebay less than a year ago and I'm pretty happy with it.  I was impressed with the unit for the price and then the features.  Has a Honda "look-a-like" engine, 58dcb muffler and a few other features that I liked for use on a jobsite since I'm a contractor.  It serves double duty part of the year by powering our horse trailer on the weekends and working on the jobsite during the week.

Happy trails.

We have the Kipor 3500. It's great. Quiet, economical to run. Runs a/c, micro, tv, etc with no problem.

Ditto on the Kipor 3500. Great generator. Runs all my stuff (which is pretty much what you mentioned) with no problem, is as quiet as the others, uses very little fuel and is about half the price of the others. Couldn't be happier. Bought mine off of Ebay. Picked it up at the freight house 3 days later. Have had it for over a year now.

I have the Yamaha 2800 EF...What I like is I can run the AC and the flat screen TV with DVD and be just fine powerwise...but also the flat screen, my computer, the DVD player are all on a pure sine wave which means the Yamaha puts out clean, non spiked power. So many electronics today can be ruined with a cheap generator. Mine is quiet, lightweight, and fuel efficient! It also has an economy control that allows the generator to run at a speed that saves fuel and automatically adjusts to the load...here is a link to help with your decision... http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_6970_...

Kipor also automatically adjusts the load and runs on low power when watching tv.We ran ours for 8 hrs and didn't even use a 1/2 tank. Great generator.  We were camping for a week .....there was a Honda on one side of us and a Yamaha on the other. We all decided to do a test for quietness. Kipor won hands down. Cost is about 1/2 of the other two. Good luck in your search.

We bought a kipor 3500 for our 5th wheel camper and it runs everything.  I do have to keep it off the power save mode if we want to use the ac and microwave at the same time. (That's with the tv, dvd player and lights on).

You can run both?  What wattage is your micro?
Running watts for the AC is around 1800 and my micro is 900, it technically can run both - just wonder about startup.  I just assumed it couldn't.

Will have to give it a try!  Thanks!

When an AC starts up it has a surge of wattage needed to get the compressor going - if you run both you can burn the Ac out because the compressor will not be able to turn over.
