I have a 3H with LQ. I beleive my waste water and sewage tanks are 35 gallons each. I've found that when I'm camping, it takes a while (at least one full day of camping with moderate use) for my test panels to show that the tanks are 1/3 full. Then it seems like they jump to 3/4 or full after a very, very short period of time.

I don't trust that the test panel is working correctly. Can anyone help me understand if something's wrong?

In some cases, it could be that your trailer is unlevel and hitting a sensor.  Also, you could have some paper stuck to a sensor if you have problems with the black water tank.  I had the same issue.  After I dump the tank out, I always hold back a little water and put some back in the black water holding tank.  Right before I get on the road I stop and put a couple of bags of ice to slosh around and clean it out real good.  This seems to help clean the sensors pretty good.

Hey, great idea about the ice in the black tank. As to the sensors...they never seem to be right on. I always just look in the toilet to really tell.

Also, where does the shower water go? Some manufacturers drain it in to Black. Really fills up fast that way.

Most showers will dump into the grey water tank with the sinks.

How do you tell that the tank is full by looking at the toilet?  Do you wait til you can see the black water by looking into it?

I used to have problems with the TP sticking on the sensors. I have stopped putting paper down the toilet and haven't had anymore problems. I also got one of those washing wands for RV toilets to clean the tank out with, it sprays water out side ways to rinse the sides with. I do that after I have used the trailer 5 or 6 times.

Yup, just looking in to the toilet works just fine when you have camped for a week with 3 daughters! Didn't overflow, but knew it was time!

I wonder if your tanks aren't 27 gal. each. With a 40 gal fresh water tank 35 for both black and grey seem like alot. Unless your fresh is bigger. I was having trouble with TP also, I now have a little wastebasket I keep in bathroom and empty once a day. I found little diaper bags for used diapers at Wally World. I put one of those in basket ( their scented) and no smell even in summer. RV place told me that the sensors stay wet for awhile after draining so will show more than whats in there. Also you can put stuff you find at WW in tank to disolve TP.

Another tip someone told me was to empty the tank and then fill 2/3 full with water. Then put in one of the "cleaners" for black water tanks, then drive home. That will get it up on the sides to cover all the tank. Then, let it sit for 24 hrs. then dump it. That is to let it work cleaning the sensors and such. Some of the RV sites have lots of info that is helpful to horsetrailer LQ's. Same equipment, different rig.

It would be nice if someone would invent a "hairnet" for the sensors in the tank. It would have to be rigid, and glueable to the side of the tank.
The net would have to be fine enough to keep the TP away, but open enough to let the fluids swish by. Of course I'd want to be able to retro-fit my tank with it. Hmmm... if you put it in with screws, is there a goo to keep it from leaking around the screws... I feel a trip to Home Depot coming on...
