I have a 26 year young Morgan. My problem is I have an Aussie and I can put my hand under saddle in the middle of the saddle. She is a little swayback but still sound. I'd like to find a lighter saddle in weight due to arthritis! thanks for any help

I have a sway backed horse also. The bars on the saddle make him sore in the loin. I've switched to a Bob Marshall treeless saddle. He his no longer sore when palpated. Older horses drop from their topline, and this is why they get sore and hard to fit.

Another hint for an oldie-but-goodie horse: Ride him "in a rounded frame" at least occasionally so you can keep his stomach muscles engaged and fit. This will do wonders for preventing additional dropping of the back. Here's to many more years of riding!!OK, pretend it's champagne.

There is a wonderful pad that has been designed for this type of situation. At this website, click on saddle pads. Then scroll down for the Have-A-Heart saddle bridgepad system.
