Has anyone with a short bed used an extender hitch such as the SB1 for GN's. I have a short bed and with the hitch installed over the axels it doesn't give me the cab clearence I feel comfy with. Especailly if I have to get into a tight spot. I towed my fifth wheel last weekend with it and seemed like normal turns were ok. But I caught myself looking back to make sure I had the clearence for the cab. It did but man didn't it look close.

I own a 2006 Dodge Mega Cab dually and I pull a 2007 Logan coach Ultra LQ it has a wedge nose and a 13' short wall and I use the extender hitch and it made a world of difference because I was told not to pulll a trailer without a tapered nose when i had a short box.

Originally I wasn't a fan of extenda hitch, but got a little more education on the advantages and the engineering. You should be happy with yours and give us some feedback after you've towed with it a few times.
Almost forgot one important part; if you haul a bunch of stuff in the bed of the truck with you, make sure you leave plenty of room for the extenda hitch to swing inside the truck bed.

Thanks for the tip. I don't usually have anything back there and when I do I try to make sure it is out of the gn's way. I'm installing it tonight and will probably tow this weekend. I'll leave feedback soon.

Well I installed the extender hitch and now my question is how much height should there be between the top of the bed and the trailer. Right now the front of the trailer looks high. What is a safe clearence? I do pull of road on occassion so I don't want to hit the bed of the truck..I'm going to tow it today to see how the hitch feels and play with it on turning and such. Thanks for all your advice...48

I have the extender, and it does help. As for bed clearance, 6 inches is a good number, but not if it putts the majority of weight on your rear trailer axle. Nose up as you are seeing. If you can't have at least 4 inches of clearance without your trailer nose up, you might want to consider having your axles remounted on blocks so the trailer rides more level.

I finally got the time to drop the nose of the trailer. Now I have about 6-7 inches between the rails and trailer. Looks alot more even. I was headed to Grave's Mnt this weekend but cancelled out due to the weather. I think I have the trailer straight now. Thanks all for your help...
