I have done a lot of research on the portable catalytic heaters...like the Coleman ProCat...and they seem to be safe AS LONG AS you create enough ventilation by leaving windows open a bit, etc. to let in fresh air. I have used one for 6 hours in an enclosed ice tent with no problems. Has anyone used one one of these in your horse trailer, and what's your opinion? It's a raging debate on RV forums...with people who use them saying they keep them on all night with windows cracked with no problems and they love them, and people who do not use them insisting they are too dangerous. Just wondering what the opinions here are?

I have one in a travel trailer...it works great during the day and evenings...I have a fire and carbonmonoxide alarm just in case...I use the same precautions you described but it is off when asleep...good sleeping bag is safer IMHO.

I had a Coleman Catalytic heater.  I didn't like the odor it released when operating.  I went to the radiant panel type of the MR Heater brand Buddy heater.

I also have a CO detector with a continous level readout that I use with the gas heater.
