Having owned several GN, I'll never go back to a BP unless I have no other option.
There isn't that much difference in weight ( for the same size trailer) But people tend to get a slightly bigger trailer when they go GN.
A Classic, Exiss, Fetherlite, Aluminum 3hrs GN will weigh in under 5000lbs empty. Add three 1000 horses and some gear and you will weigh around 9000 lbs loaded.
Check you trucks owners manual and see if it is rated for this weight. I had a 97 F250 ( The beefed up F150 body style)with the 5.4L engine and I pulled a 3 horse Steel bumper pull for 3 years. It worked hard on the 7% grades. But was just fine on the flat.

I agree with Painted Horse.....
Sure you want to pull a 3h with a 1500 Ram? I have one and hooked it up to my 3h SL Exiss and empty it put some strain on the truck....I use a F250 SD CC 5.4L and it does ok except on the steeper grades it strains some. GN is the way to go....

You may want to check out your vehicle's gross combine weight rating (GCWR). Since it is a 4X4, your towing numbers are little lower because of the 4 wheel drive. I would also be concerned about braking ability, strain on the transmission, etc., with a 1500 and a 3 horse gooseneck. Margins of safety are paramount for me. I suspect you will be "on the edge" with your numbers. I pulled a 2 horse gooseneck with a 1500 for a very short time, and quickly remedied my mistake.
