A friends dog was sprayed by a skunk. What works to get rid of the smell? The dog didn't get enought the first time, she proceeded to chase the skunk and got sprayed a total of 4 times. Idiot dog!!

Poor dog; poor people..... I've always heard that tomato juice will remove the smell. Think I saw something recently at the discount store that claimed it would remove skunk smell. Good luck.

I've heard a mud bath (let the mud dry completly) before you rinse will get the smell out of the hair.

Check with your veterinarian or pet store for a spray or shampoo called "Skunk Off". This stuff does work well and every dog owner should have a bottle on hand.

thanks y'all. The tomato juice didn't do anything and the poor dog has been rolling in the mud/dirt, and horse "leftovers" for 2 days. I'll tell her to check with her vet for the Skunk off.

The poor dog is doing better. My friend found something at the feed store an has washed the dog several times. Still a faint odor, but not bad. She will probally be an outside dog for a while still. Hopefully the skunk doesn't come back!!

There's a product in the air freshener section of the grocery store called Odor-cide that has worked well for me. It is a small spray bottle of a clear green liquid and it leaves behind a pleasant smell. I just sprayed it over my dogs and it did a pretty amazing job of killing the odor. Had to be re-sprayed a time or two but I was impressed.
