I am looking for horse camps near the upper buffalo river area. I have been to Steel Creek and Erbie, but am looking for a campground that offers electric/water and corrals/stalls for horses. Does anyone know of any?

Good luck finding something. I posted similiar question last year. Didn't find anything out. However went on and stayed at Steele Creek. Had a nice time, beautiful scenery from campsite, and nice area to ride. But not enough riding for us. Will keep an eye on your spot to see what you find out. We also went to Lonesome D, New Blaine AK. WONDERFUL riding, hope to go back this year. My favorite place so far though is THE SHAWNEE!! The Smokies are GREAT, but all primitive camping.

We are just getting into this camping with our horses but so far it is great! We camped at New Blaine in October and loved it there. The trails are a little hard to understand but they all lead back to camp so it was okay. We rode 4.5 hrs the first day and almost 6 the next and never crossed the same place twice ( we think). We also went to Clinton Ar in August for the Chuck Wagon Races and it was something everyone should see at least once. There were over 5000 horses there and that isnt counting the wagons! The camps are primitive but every one used generators. They have very rustic showers and lots and lots of port a potties. It was very clean and organized. Something different to do each day ( if u wanted to) a creek to swim in( if u wanted to ) and bands and barn dances almost every nite. It only happens once a year so maybe u can be there. Last week of August.

If you didn't have enough trails at the Buffalo... you were goin too fast! there are over 110 miles of marked trails and many others unmarked... you can go from Boxley to east of 65 hwy along the river... there are a couple of camps near Jasper.. call the chamber of commerce or look in Trailrider Magazine for listings by state and region. I love the Smoky's too, but I need wings on my truck & trailer...

You know when you go somewhere new, it's normal to not find all the trails. Unless you ride with someone familiar with the area. So that is probably what happen to us at Steele Creek. We were the only ones in the campground. But still as I said, beautiful area. WE just weren't fortunate enough to find alot of different trails. Maybe we'll go back sometime and try our luck again.

How was the camp at Lonesome D? Last time one of my friends went, it was pretty messy, lots of manure and the showerhouses were yucky. Plus they were encouraging ATVers in camp. I really like riding there but haven't been back recently.

The showers are new, the correls you have to clean when u leave, but overall we really liked it. They have seperate trails for the atvs. so they didnt bother use any. They have water and electric which we liked. The trails are great even though the maps are kinda hard to read. We plan on going back again this year.

We are going to Lonesome D in April. Was there last year and really enjoyed it. I thought their map system was quite unique, with the number system, you could look at the map and tell where you were. Their color coded trails were a little confusing, but again the number system worked well for us. We suggested this system to The Shawnee area. If you have ridden the Shawnee, the Lonesome D trail map is impressive in comparisom. But I always ride with a GPS, they are very helpful, when you get ready to head back to camp....

Hey there fellow riders.... Have any of you looked into the Buffalo Trail Ride in Tennessee? I don't know how far you want to drive, but there are plenty of trails, water to swim in or can even canoe.
We plan on going Memorial weekend and making it a 5 day trip. Oh, and by the way, I forgot to mention that is is a bit rocky and on those type of holiday weekends, there can be over 800 people there.
