My first question is what kind of showing are you planning. Secondly, what color is Duke?
Your outfit should be tailored to your style of riding (reining, barrels, Western Pleasure, Horsemanship, etc.) and compliment the horse's natural colors while still showing your individual flare.
For example, a neon pink saddle pad with glittered hoof polish would not go well in Horsemanship...even in your local 4-H club shows.

Jesse, Some forum ettiqute that would be helpful to us readers,
Typing in all caps is refered to be shouting, and an annoying thing to read.
Spelling and typing style is the only thing we can judge each other by, To come across and use bad habits in these areas paints a bad image of yourself.
Spell check is built into this forum spellcheck with the "ABC" and check mark underneath.
Also for show (at least the ones I go to) the horse has a registered paper name and that is his show name, not one I get to make up.
You can go to some of the major horse vendor websites such as schniders (www.sstack.com), state line tack,(www.statelinetack.com) and they have reccomendations on what colors to use for a show shirt based on your horses color.

Evn 8-10 year olds do not write that bad. I also don't believe this is a young child writing on this forum. Someone who just likes wasting our time. If you are trully a "young child" get involved with a 4-H club and have your Leader/Advisor help you out. That is what they are there for.

I don't think this is an 8-10 yr old posting. I think it's a twenty-something secretary that used to work for me, and may I say, for a very short time! LOL

I must say as a 4-H agent, that if jessie is actually a 4-H student, I think it is time to stop the replies as well. For those who do not work with students who have problems forming their words, this could be a potential student. I have gone back and looked at all the posts from this individual and the pattern is consistent with the way they form their words. I have come across students like this in my 4-H clubs in the county. In the age of computers, we see large amounts of young children entering the world of discussion pages and chat rooms and other online avenues that are condusive to open discussion. We need to take into account that this is a possibilty and be respectful of this. There are many times that young children are able to access the internet without their parent knowing all that they are doing while they are on there. Would you want your child to be mocked and ridiculed the way this topic has done if they had a learning disability? Hopefully, it is a student and not some adult sitting back doing this just for a good laugh. From a 4-H agent stand point, I would appreciate some consideration in this case as well.

I am also a 4-H Advisor. I also know that if this "kid" is in 4-H they would be talking to their leader about this. I really don't believe this is a kid. Especially the one response was very well worded, too articulate for an 8-10 yr old!!! I have been involved in 4-H for over 25 years. First of all I don't believe a kid would be asking those type of questions on a forum that is 99.9% adult discussion. Second of all there are more "kid friendly" forums elsewhere on the net. I did a random search and this forum doesn't automatically come up on the search engines, so as a kid they would have to be pretty intelligent to seek out this forum! Just a couple of things to consider. When you enter htw front page. Your first look is at trailers, not a forum. The forum link is very small at the top right of the page. So someone has to be intent on entering the forum. Working with kids, I know they have short attention spans and unless it is easy to get into most don't waste their time searching for something, especially 8-10 year olds!!! So I my deduction is this.... in all probability this is a someone who likes to stir things up and act like a juvenile. Also, there were other postings about helpful suggestions and you notice how this "kid" did not say thank you, nor acknowledge them? Plus most of the young kids (8-10) do not go around saying you are "dissing" me...lol.. especially ones around horses! Big clue there.

Also...checked on the profile for last log on times...they are an adult. I am familiar with the IL time zone. So for this person to be a child they could not have logged on at the time they did. My sister is a teacher in Chicago.

Do students in Chicago not get a related arts time?? Our students in TN have access to computers at different times in the day. There is one post that was made at 7:35 a.m. that puzzles me. I am not sure when your start times are for schools in that area. The computers have software that prevents them from accessing certain sites with unacceptable content for minors. I would venture to say that this site would not be blocked. I came across a student this past year in a club meeting that typed like this and used alot of the same language. For these reasons, I felt it could be plausible that this could be a child. I am one to give people the benefit of doubt instead of jumping to the worse case scenario. Just call it southern hospitality.

What is related arts? I don't know about anywhere else, but here the kids do not have acess to the internet at school even though they do have computer classes. It may be different elsewhere.

If this is a child she/he should be in severe remediation for obvious reasons. In my experience this type of problem leads parents to pull their children from public school and teach at home. The major problem with this is that the parent is not trained to deal with these needs and thus the child never learns to correct the deficiency. This is how we end-up with adults that can't read and write well enough to hold a job.
Bad learning problems lead to education problems.
Educational problems lead to social problems.
Social problems lead to leaving the educational system.

HS starts at 7:45am and Middle School around 8am-830am depending on the district. Again...if this was a child seeking help...why not respond to those who did offer help? Also, every child I have worked with in 4-H would not use the word "dissin or dissing". Most teenagers use that word, not the younger ones. That is just in my experience. I think this is a prankster that got caught. This site doesn't have safe certificates so it would not be allowed at school.

Now I deserve a martini.
Scarey part is...my neighbor home schools and all of her kids have MAJOR educational issues and recieve ZERO specialized treatment and their needs go unattended. She knows that I know exactly why she home schools and she talks for them when I am around to cover for her kids.
I wonder if home schooled kids can sue their parents for robbing them of a good education? I ask because I have yet to meet ONE home schooled child that was even close to on-level when they hit public school or college.

My neighbor's daughter homeschooled her kids thru elementary school, then switched them to public school. The one daughter skipped a grade when she entered public school, she was that advanced. I think it all depends on WHO is doing the teaching when homeschooling AND the ability of the child. I still think Jessie is pulling our keyboards!
