The Trace Tribute Endurance Ride Proudly Presents a New Rider Clinic on 03/17/06!

Interested in developing a deep bond with your horse by seeing exciting new trails and riding 25, 50, 75, or even 100 miles? If you answered yes, the sport of endurance might be for you! Endurance riding involves events which vary in distance between 50 and 100 miles and are done in a single day within a set period of time. Limited Distance rides, a category of endurance, are shorter, between 25 and 35 miles. In both categories, the horse with the fastest time wins, contingent upon meeting 'fit to continue' criteria which is determined by the ride's veterinary staff. Throughout the ride, horses are monitored by veterinarians at predetermined check points. These checkpoints often have mandatory rests called "holds" for the horses throughout the ride. The goal of endurance is to complete the ride with a sound, happy horse. This spirit is embodied by the sport's motto which is "To Finish is to Win!"

Not sure how to start? No worries, the Trace Tribute can help!

Veteran endurance riders Mary Kathryn and Peggy Clark will be hosting a three hour clinic to help new riders understand the sport of endurance. Topics will include how to feed, water, electrolyte, tack, and pace the endurance horse; how to determine a heart rate using a stethoscope; how to correctly present your horse to the vets; definitions of gates, holds, and ride times; tips on camping and traveling with your horse.

If you're interested in endurance and would like to learn more, please RSVP by sending an email to Eva de Paulis @ eva@tracetribute.com with your name, email, and phone number. There is no fee to join the clinic but riders who have registered in the ride may be eligible to receive a gift. The clinic will be held in the Trib's base camp @ 10:00am CST on 03/17/06. Please refer to the ride flyer for directions to base camp. We hope you'll join us!
