This past weekend wife & I were riding trails when we came upon 3 hunters dragging their portable stand back to their truck. Horses stopped dead in their tracks to watch. While standing there about 35 yards from the hunters, we observed a large bunch of turkeys in the brush silently slipping along. When we approached the hunters, we asked what they had been hunting. They responded "deer". Told them too bad they weren't hunting turkey 'cause we had seen a bunch back where we were stopped watching them. They took off like their pants were on fire in that direction. When we got about 75 yards away we heard 6 shots. We went back and they were emerging from the brush with a turkey apiece. They thanked us for telling them where the turkeys were. Said they hadn't seen anything all morning. Funny, wife & I saw 3 deer while riding that morning. Course I guess the deer know they're safe from us as we don't hunt anymore, just enjoy watching all the wild critters. But, hunters and riders can share the same territory in a friendly way.
