Just had to brag......after 3 months, my new 4 Star trailer is here and I absolutely love it. I have been using it for 2 weeks and I honestly can't think of 1 thing that I would change or wish I would have added to it. Here's what I got:
2H Slant GN with permanent rear tack, 3 saddle racks, 60 / 40 rear doors, extra bridle hooks and brush trays, drop down windows with low latches on head side, bus windows on rear, WERM flooring, extra tie hooks on the inside and outside, walk through door from DR to horse area, DR (41" short wall), vent in DR, and boot box on the short wall.
I spent almost a month looking at various brands, features, models, etc. and finally ended up ordering exactly what I wanted (I couldn't find anything currently in stock). So for those of you considering a new trailer, I would highly recommend taking your time, keep an open mind when looking at different brands, and make a list of the features you absolutely must have and those you absolutely don't want. You will be much happier in the end.....even if you have to wait 3 months to get it.

Champ,
What kind of gooseneck hitch did you end up getting with the sidestep? Nice looking rig! Its alway nice to see someone else using a half ton when there are all those naysayers about having a 3/4 ton minimum. How has it been pulling (no problem I'm sure).

I went to a Truck Equipment Company and they said it was no problem putting a hitch on the truck. It's a fold away ball hitch (don't remember which brand). The first place I went just didn't was to mess with it since the fuel tank is right below the bed. They said it was a "liability" issue. I even asked if they could drop the fuel tank, install the hitch, and raise the tank back up but they just didn't want to mess with it. Anyway, it's installed and it works fine.
As far as the trailer goes, it's 21" total length, weighs 3500# empty, and it pulls just fine. I think the truck would be straining a little if it was a heavier trailer or a 3 horse loaded, but I have hauled 4 times with both 1 and 2 horses in it and it was no problem.
I HIGHLY recommend the lower latches on drop down windows for anyone who is vertically challenged.

I think you would be surprised how well your truck would do even with a larger/heavier load. and thanks for sharing your "under-trucked" experiances.
