Hi Trailet experts:  I'm looking at buying a 1994 Trailet 2-horse, GN trailer.  The trailer seems to be in good condition, except that it needs new latches on the top rear doors and a fix for the ramp lift.  My questions are these:

(1) How much will it cost to replace the latch and to fix/replace the lift/spring parts for the ramp.

(2)  Also, the guy who has the trailer says that the newer trucks do not fit under the gooseneck.  This is okay with me because I'm going to have to buy a used truck as well.  My question is, what year truck (assuming a 250/2500 size/type truck) will have a low enough bed to fit under the gooseneck.

Any information or other words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks for your help.

FRC

We had one for a short whiile. Pulled just fine with our '97 Dodge 1500, 4x4, shortbed.

The biggest problem I had with it was the frame rust. The factory powdercoating / paint seems to have held in the moisture. Check underneath real well.

But most of that is how it's been maintained and / or stored when not in use.

Good luck, Gary.

Thanks for the info.  Actually, I'm considering a 94 Dodge Ram 2500, 4x4.  Do you think that will fit as well?  (sorry if I'm asking silly questions...I appreciate the help!)

Well, it depends on the engine and gear ratios. My Dodge has the 5.9 engine, and 3:55 gears. It pulled our Trail-et OK, but I wish I had the 4:10 gears in it.

You also haven't said what size the trailer is. Ours was the Thoroughbred style, straight load, with a 4' dressing room. It pulled OK, but the lower gears would have helped on the hills. Is your terrain hilly, or fairly flat?

As far as fitting OK? It should be fine, our shortbed has had plenty of clearance. But all of the trailers I have pulled, have had the "V" style nose. I've heard there can be clearance problems with the wider flat nose trailers. Is the truck you're looking at a shortbed, or longbed?

Thanks for all the information.  I'm so disappointed as I just learned that the trailer has been sold to someone else.

Sorry to hear that, I know the feeling. If you're not in a big hurry, winter is a good time to buy. There are a couple listed on here that seem decent.

Good luck, Gary.

I don't know if you'd be interested, but we just decided to sell our 2-H GN Sundowner. It's all steel, and about 1000 lbs heavier then the Trail-Et, but in excellent cond.
