Time to put the LQ trailer away here soon for the winter and someone suggested I take the RV battery off of my trailer as over time it can "crystalize" and eventually wear all the juice down and have a battery that lasts half what it should. Then once every couple months hook it up to a charger to keep it somewhat charged throughout the winter.

Does anyone else do this? This is my first year with my LQ trailer so just want to do things right.

i would suggest hooking it up to a "battery tender". there are several models avaliable, even wally world sells them. they are basically low powered battery chargers that will turn theirself on and off to maintain a charge in the battery.  i started using one on my motorcycle, it may sit for months, always fires right up. whereas before it may or may not.

Yes, it's best to winter store the battery in a garage or barn, and throw a charge on it every month or so. The worst thing for a battery is to let it go dead, it shortens overall life considerably, and a dead battery will freeze up and split the case. If you put it on a concrete or dirt floor, lay it on a board, or it will discharge itself. Keep the electrolyte topped off with distilled water only, to keep the plates covered. The posts clean up good with baking soda or even coca cola, but don't let any of it get down into the electrolyte.

Hope this helps...

I use em all the time! good for lawn mower motorcycle even charge up your breakaway battery. Get the "Battery Tender" Brand. Just plug it in and forget it....till spring.
