I totally cleaned out my horse trailer this weekend & removed the old shavings. I was wondering if there are any disadvantages / problems to using cedar shavings for horses? I think that cedar would not be as dusty over time & also the shavings seem to be just a little bit larger in size. Thanks for the information.

A word of caution on the cedar shavings.
Your horse(s) might get a bad allergic reaction to them. I only use pine shavings because I have two horses whose skin are very sensitive.
It seems I remember reading of other health issues that might develop from use of cedar shavings but I can't remember. Maybe someone else will have some input38

The phenols in Cedar(makes them smell good) can cause cancer if over exposed. Just check out some websites for small furry animals and you'll find the info quite easily. The last thing you'd want is some respritory problem that could have been avoided.
