I see alot of information on higher priced aluminum horse trailers, but I don't see much on medium priced trailers ($6,000 - $11,000). I would like to know which galvanized steel trailers have slam latches that are easy for anyone to use. I saw a very nice Trails West trailer on "Best of America on horseback" on RFD-tv. Unfortunately the closest dealer is 12 hours away. I prefer to look a trailer before I buy, so I am hesitant to "mail order". Has anyone used any nice slam latches on a steel trailer?

I have the CM Dakota (not SSL) that has the slam latches that Chadsalt posted without the rubber wall pads. I am impressed with the quality of my CM steel trailer.

They build the Trails West and Logan Coach trailers about 60 miles away. So we see a lot of them around here. Several friends have those trailers and have had no problems with the slam latches.

i have been interested in looking at the double d brand with the galvaneal. there are none around here. does anyone have one and are you satisfied with it.

Our Circle J Riata was all galvaneal. Had some really easy to use and heavyduty latches. It was avery well built trailer. Had it for almost 3 years and not a lick of rust on it. Course they are made in Idaho and our dealer carried them but I don't know if they would be in Florida. Very nice trailer for the money. Lots of attention to detail and good customer service.

We have an S & H Contender Sport. I love it. The doors slam very easily, but I also like that they are easy to open even if the horse has some weight on them. Latches are really important to me and I was very pleased with the quality vs. price on ours. Good Luck!

You might look for a Titan dealer. They make galvaneal trailers in Waterville, KS. Their dividers slam up real nice, and the telescoping part is very easy to use. Of any trailer on the market, I think Integrity has the easiest slam latches on the dividers...hands down. They are fingertip control even with a horse sitting on the divider. They have also changed to a new style latch on the outside doors that is pretty and unbeatable.

I HAVE A DOUBLE D AND AM VERY SATISFIED THUS FAR. I HAVE HAD IT FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS AND HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS. IT IS A 4-HORSE SLANT W/LIVING QUARTERS. THESE TRAILERS ARE NOT TOP OF THE LINE BUT I FEEL THEY ARE WORTH THE MONEY. I BOUGHT A USED TRAILER, ITS A 2003 AND HAS LITTLE IF ANY RUST. THE SWINGING TACK COMPARTMENT FEATURE IS AWESOME. IT OPENS THE ENTIRE REAR OF THE TRAILER FOR EASIER LOADING INSTEAD OF TRYING TO THREAD THEM THROUGH A NEEDLE. THE TRAILER PULLS LIKE A CHAMP. THE LQ IS DONE BY DOUBLE D AND IS DONE PRETTY DARN WELL IN MY BOOK FOR WHAT I WILL BE USING THE TRAILER FOR. (TRAILRIDING/CAMPING) IF YOU HAVE ANY SPECIFIC QUESTIONS FIRE AWAY AND I'LL HELP IF I CAN.

What year is your S & H? The doors your refered to, are these slant load dividers? Does the trailer rattle much?

My S & H is a 2003. It does have slant dividers. The only thing I have really noticed rattling is the head portion of the divider (mine are solid) when you close them. Once closed, I think the trailer is quieter than my old combo/stock trailer. We have trained two young horses in this trailer and noise never seemed to bother them. I also like that the rear tack will fold up pretty easily if you have a horse that wants a little larger room to load.
Going down the road the diesel beats the trailer in rattles, but I still love my Ford!!

I have a Trailswest, the slam latches are on the stall dividers. They work flawlessly, and you don't have to "slam" them, something the horses appreciate. Very happy with the trailer after 3 years, and no rust and no leaks. Had a problem with the stainless steel wheel simulators that kept falling off, lost 2 of them on the highway, but Trailswest sent me replacements for free. No problems since.
