I am looking for the meat bags (panniers) for sawbuck and over the saddle type. Also looking for pack saddle pads. Does anyone know of a good place on the internet to order such? Tried ebay, really nothing there. Thanks!!

I would also recommend the Wyomingoutdoors.com site. They carry it all!!! I purchased the cavalry feed bag for camping with my horses. They take a little practice in trying to get them attached, but they work really well. No feed spillage and no trying to steal from the horse next door.

I will also vouch for Wyoming Outdoor Industries as being a very good supplier of hunting and pack equipment.
Another one of my favorites is Butte Creek Outfitters (800) 401-4004 Thier website is just getting started, so I really recommend calling to get the information on ALL the gear that Ben sells. I get his newspaper type catalog a couple times a year.

I think Jeffer's is getting out of selling pack equipment. Couldn't find the panniers or pads separately online or their catalog. Valley vet doesn't have the pads. I will look into those other sites you guys mentioned. We got an elk down the other week and took my 5 yr old mare that has never seen one. Don't worry, I also brought a couple other ones that have packed. I borrowed a pannier and put it over her saddle and rode her. I really wasn't expecting her to pack anything, just to be around it. I took part of the elk up to her and she wanted to eat it!! I ended up putting the 2 shoulders and the neck and head on her. She packed like a pro!! I even had to get on her back to cross the river in a halter and leadrope. Needless to say, she will be packing a lot more so I need to get more equipment.

I've heard horror stories about packing wild game. But my horses have all done it without any problem.
The biggest reaction that I have gotten is when riding up on a downed animal they sometimes shy. No more than seeing a big rock or log in the shadows. Once they realize it's not moving, and elk or deer is no big deal.
I suspect it has more to do with the trust the horse has in you than the smell of the wild game.
