Ok guys- I plan to purchase a new 2 or 3 horse bumper pull trailer. I am
undecided as to which ones I want to consider. Looking at Keifer Built,
4 Star, Trail-et, Featherlite, Sooner. Would appreciate any advise,
suggestions anyone might have on any of these trailers or any others.
Thanks a bunch!!

From the ones mentioned 4-Star would be the last. Take a very good look at the 4-star floor system.

4-Star gets my vote without any hesitation. And I have looked at the flooring system!

Hey Hogman, Whats up with the 4 starr floor? I don't have one but I always thought it would be the best for me and I have draft horses and cross breds. I also really like the Eby brand but there are not many used ones for sale. Thanks

I know you didn't mention Dream Coach, but you might want to take a look at it. We have found it to be a very well built trailer, and offers a rumber floor, which we have in our trailer. They are a very good company to deal with.

I would have  to agree with the Jamco. I have looked long and hard and from a design angle, I don't think anyone is close to Jamco. It has to be without a doubt the toughest Aluminum trailer on the market. Sometimes it's hard to find a dealer close to home. But if your looking for a good looking well built trailer check out the American Spirit Nice trailer!

In my opinion, the sandwich floor construction of the 4-star provides too great an oppertunity for corrosion.

"Sandwich" ?
Are you suggesting that there are cavities that are likely to trap/retain water or urine ?
Mine drains directly to the ground. It is a little better since I added a few more 3/8 or so holes in the corners in front of the wheel wells, but that was more because of the odd angle that I usually wash it at than anything else.
I have crawled around under there, I don't see the problem that you're describing.

I'm on my 3rd 4-star and never had a floor corrosion problem.  They are built like tanks.

Two years ago when my wife decided she needed a new trailer, we looked at more trailers than I care to remember. At that time we were looking at 2H BP and the 4-Star floors had areas which I felt would trap urine, thus creating a corrosion problem, and thus I dismissed that brand.
Of course the one we did buy has since went down the road when she determined the need for a LQ trailer that is now in the barn. Maybe the floor in the larger trailer is of different design, I don't know.

4-star has some drain holes for urine dispersal and they use very heavy aluminum.  The drain holes along with adequate bedding, do the trick very nicely.

Congratulations hav2ride, your interpretive abilities continue to be amazing.  Last week you were interpreting an article which said a tow vehicle should perform the same loaded as empty, saying that's not what it really said when everyone else on the subject said it did.  Now you're interpreting my explanation of the basis of my opinion.  I never said the 4-Star didn't have drain holes, I said I saw areas which I thought would be subject to trapping urine.

Geez, take a chill pill!  You never said that 4-stars did have drain holes either.  Sorry that my experiences with 4-stars don't equate with your "thoughts".  I posted because I didn't want anyone to think that 4-stars weren't a quality trailer.

I like the 4 Star, but I don't like their tiny windows.  When the trailers are closed, the windows, at least in the bumpers straight loads (which is what I would pull) are small compared to other brands.  Esp the bus windows, where only half that window opens.  the head access door windows are also very small.

So I wouldn't buy one because of the window factor.  Maybe the slants are better since the windows open more, and I do like the fact that the slant windows have a bottom latch.  But alas, my horse doesn't fit in slants.

I also don't like the solid alum floor, I like the wood floors better, I feel they give more because wood seems to flex more (in my mind.)  Easier for the non-welder to replace if need be.

I haven't been able to find much that fits my category except the Hawks and Trailets. However, I liked the old manger configurations better than these new walk thru mangers.  I liked when I could open the doors from the outside and just pull out my tack.  In fact, I still have an 84 trailer built that way.

I also don't like the step ins that are high .. but I can't lift ramps that are heavy.

Oh, so many requirements.  Right now I am pulling an old Trailet with full doors and a small ramp.  I wish that it were the ramp with dutch doors, but this was the best combination I could get in a used trailer that fit my needs.

Hav2ride, please let me apologize, I didn't know you were the resident expert on 4-Star trailers and apparently the resident marketing manager also.  That's a mistake on my part, having followed this forum for some time I should have know you're an expert on everything.  It even says so under your name on the header.

Did you every hear the phrase, he who don't know and don't know he don't know is a fool?

If you have followed this board for long, you should note that I don't post on all topics, only on the topics that I know about.  Am I an expert on 4-stars?  Considering the fact that I have owned 3, I quess that makes me a bit more qualifed to comment on them than you.  As for being a marketing manager, the OP asked for opinions on the mentioned trailers.  I formed my opinions because I owned some of the trailer brands and have friends who own the other brands.  I said nothing negative about the other brands or the other posters.  The heading under my name reflects the number of posts because of the number of years I have been a member.  I am not the only one with that stupid title.  I never asked for that title but, if my posts bother you, don't read them!

Two of my friends have had 4-star 2 horse slant bp. Both have been very nice and easy to use. I would buy a 4-star, but I am also smitten by the creature comforts of the Cimarron. I currently own a CM 2 horse straight load steel and love it for what it is.

I looked at several trailers before I decided on a 4-Star. Mine has the WERM flooring (worth every penny) which keeps any moisture from running through to the flooring, plus you never have to pull the mats out to clean. I previously had a Sundowner, looked at Cimmaron, Keifer Built, Sooner, Featherlite, Hart, Cherokee, Classic, Platinum, and another Sundowner. In my opinion, all of the trailers I looked at were quality trailers but a couple of the manufacturers stood out and the trailers just felt and sounded much more solid than the others. I ended up selecting 4 Star based on several friend's recommendations, dealer proximity and service, features, and price. I found that the more I looked at various brands, the easier the decision became as to which trailers were the best quality and which one would best fit my needs.

I think all of the brands you mentioned are good products and you probably wouldn't be disappointed with any of them.....you just need to decide which has the best features, resale value in your area, best dealer service, and price for your needs.

Good luck in your search.

Buy whatever has the features and capabilities that you want.

As far as durability: KEEP IT CLEAN!

If you keep it clean it will last a very long time . . . whether it is steel, aluminum, fiber, etc.

Of the ones you mentioned, I've owned them all, except for the Keifer. I would select the 4 Star hands down over the others and run from the Featherlite if they tried to give it away.

Of those not mentioned, I won't buy anything but an Elite from now on. In over 30 years of horseshowing and too many trailers and trailer brands to even count, there is nothing out there that suits me for the total package of looks, reliability, maintenance ease, horse comfort, stability, value, etc. The 4 Star is the closest to an Elite that I've found.
