Last time I tried to pull my trailer the brakes were stuck on.  I had to unplug them in order to go forward.  Does anyone know what would cause this? I had them installed by Camper City and have taken my truck and trailer back to them 3 times to fix it. They fix it and then it only last for one or two trips.

Since they release when you unplug the trailer from the truck, it is LIKELY that the problem is on the truck side, i.e. your brake controller is actuating the brakes when it shouldn't. I suggest you go through the controller set-up procedure, if you don't still have it try the manufacturer's web site.

What specifically are they "fixing" when you take it back...any paperwork that says what they did?  I had this problem last year with an older 2H BP I had bought....intermittant brake lockup. I had to completely replace all the trailer wiring...intermittant shorts, worn insulation on the wires.  If your trailer is new, might be as previous poster said, defective brake control on vehicle.

My trailer is fairly new.  I called the Sundowner place here and he seemed to think he knows exactly what is wrong.  He said something about Ponderosa six prong hookups have the hot button in the center and others don't so it's defaulting it out or something like that.  Does that sound right?

Yep, that sounds right! I had the same thing happen to me with my new Ponderosa trailer. I had to re-wire the trailer plus & it has been fine ever since. I was really happy that they (Ponderosa) sent a wiring skimatic (spelling) with the owners manual. It took me about 15 minutes & we were back in action.

So far, I like my Ponderosa, my only complaint is that they didn't put any lights in the horse section for when we are loading & unloading in the dark, plus traveling... good thing I have good friends that are VERY handy!!

Alex

P.S. and very willing horses that ride in it!!

well there are 2 ways to wire a 6pin, however if it was wired backward in your application the problem would not come and go.  if the brake and 12v wire were reversed the brakes would be applied as soon as the pigtail was plugged in and would NOT release until unplugged. seen a few semi skilled people have the same problem with a 7 pin too.

Over the phone diagnosis is probably no better than over the web.
There are a few different wiring standards around, you just need the truck and trailer to adhere to the same one. My preference is to adapt the trailer to the truck - once I'm sure the truck to be to it's original spec.

See e-trailer for the common wiring standards and some of the manufacturer's variations on them.
