Howdy,  I'm getting close to making a LARGE purchase on a S'downer 4H Sierra 8010 & wondering if there are any negatives experienced by ya'll.  For example has anyone had a length issue due to the shorter floor in horse area w/mangers and fender on butt wall or any overall quality issues.  Would GREATLY appreciate your positive and negative experiences!   Many Thanks!!!!

Sundowners are fine trailers - its just the whole subject tends to spark a very emotional debate!

I have a 1997 two horse Sundowner slant with the mangers and I love it.  Mine is all aluminum and it's still like new. Yes, there is not quite as much room with those built-in mangers, so it wouldn't be a good trailer for very large horses, but my Quarter horses fit just fine. If I were to buy another one, I probably would just use the removable corner feeders and not the built-in mangers. Yes, there is a lot of debate about those mangers. My horses are quite compact and they seem comfortable even though they have less space then most trailers.

As far as quality, I think Sundowner makes a wonderful product, although a bit pricey. You do pay for the name, but you also get great resale value out of it. I think there are a lot of comparable trailers out there for a little better price, but then you do lose a little in the resale value. I searched and researched trailers for a good six months before I decided on my used Sundowner. I was in the market for a used trailer and this one ended up being the best value for my money. Good luck to you!

Whether or not the floor length will be adequate when you have mangers depends on the overall trailer width.  I wouldn't go under 8' wide, especially with an LQ, because you have the extra room.  As for the Sundowner product, do as much research as possible.  Of course, you should research ANY brand of trailer that you are considering.  Bear in mind that advertisements do not qualify as research material!
