Hi ---anybody out there using a Class C motorhome as a tow vehicle? I have a couple of friends who do and am wondering if this type of vehicle is substantial enough to pull a 3 horse bumper pull? My price range currently limits me to the E450 chassis with either a Chevy 454, Ford 460 or Ford V10 Triton engine. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I know a few people that haul with motor homes. 2 class C's and a class A. I think they are all running 460's, but we've hauled with a 454 Truck and it is a great engine too.
Same thing as with any truck as a tow vehicle it all comes down to limits. Obviously the bigger the motorhome it self is the less you'll be able to tow with it. But you should be able to find one that can tow a 3H.

I saw quite a few of the Class C motorhomes pulling 2 and 3 horse trailers at the AQHA Congress last year. If you can afford it, go for it! You only live once!

I used to pull a 3 horse bumper pull, but always with just 2 horses, with a Class C MH. Mine was only a 20' with a smaller engine than what you're considering. You will definitely want a WDH because it really helps when those 18 wheelers pass by. Problem with pulling with a MH is gas mileage. I only got around 6-6.5 mpg. I now pull a 9' LQ 3-horse slant with a 250 Ford diesel and get at least 11 mpg plus it feels a lot more stable.

I've been pulling with a class C MH for 2 years now, I think it is the way to go. Fuel mileage isn't the greatest, but what is now days with the prices! Steep hills are a little tough, and it was really hard getting used to being passed all the time going down the Interstate, it takes a little longer getting to where your going, but then slowing down can save lives. I've heard the V10 has good power, but then I'm a Chevy lover, used to pull my bigger trailer with my Chevy Duramax. My MH is an older '89' 27' 460 Ford and I pull an 18' steal heavy duty stock, usually haul 2 horses, hay, firewood, water tank, all the tack, camping gear, ect.... Don't really have a problem. I think it is they way to go! and if you don't like it you can allways go back to a Truck & trailer. Also the MH you can use for camping not just for horses like a LQ trailer. But I've done both. Good luck! in whatever you decide!

Thanks everybody for the informative replies! Now I just need to make a trailer switch---anybody want to trade a 3H BP for a 4H GN with unfininished LQ?

My question has always been whether the long overhang behind the axle would make the horses' ride worse - all that vertical motion in the hitch. It kinda makes me seasick when I'm behind a big motorhome with any kind of trailer, watching it go up and down!
