I have a 98 3h featherlite with a weekender package in it and insurance runs be about $300 or alittle over a year.  Not too bad I didn't think.  Good Luck with finding a new trailer!

I was pleasantly surprised to get full coverage for my 3H slant, w/LQ for less than $250 per year. I checked on some of the "trailer" insurers and ended up with a better deal from my my regular vehicle insurer. Here in the SW we have some scary weather and insurance surely helps me sleep better. Good luck with your trailer!

My 1999 Bison is full coverage thru Allstate and cost me $394 a year. And they covered mass water damage to my LQ to the tune of $8300 just a month ago. They had a whole new LQ installed thru the RV dealer that did the quote. Can't complain about that.

I'd just ask your insurance company. My trailer is covered under the comprehesive part of my insurance. My rates did not go up with my trailer listed on my policy and I know it works cause they covered the one stolen from us.

Safe Riding,
Todd

My previous coverage ( 2000 3 horse gooseneck) was $170 a year.  My new Classic Bunkhouse (3 hourse gooseneck with a weekend package) increased my premium by $40.

Most of the liability coverage for a trailer is under you truck insurance. So any insurance premium you pay is usually for theft or damage to the trailer

I just got my auto insurance renewal with Geico. For a 2004 3H CM w/ 10ft LQ it is $253 for six months. $95 for comprehensive & $158 for collision w/ a $250 deductible.

I wonder why everyone elses rates are lower?

I see some REALLY low rates here.Did i get taken???I just bought a 2004 Keifer 3horse with LQ and slide out.I had to insure it for $35,000 and the best rate i found was $1400 a year with a $250 deductable.I checked with 5 different companies and they all told me since it had LQ i had to insure it like a RV.

My insurance didn't ask about LQ, Just the valuation of the trailer.

Based upon a $26,000 value they charged me $210 per year.

Yikes! And I thought mine was high. I ensure for $39,000. ($253.70/six months). They didn't ask if it had LQ, but I told them anyway. I do have a few :-) dings on my driving record, but when I took the D.D. course, the discount only applied to my car & truck, not my trailer, so I don't think they are hitting me for the trailer. I would guess the newer the trailer, the more the insurance is going to be in general. Some people I know have been able to insure their trailer on their home owners insurance for a good rate. If you put it on your car insurance, I think it might be cheaper than buying insurance stand alone.

My insurance company (Allstate) knows my trailer has a LQ but based the premium off the value only.

On a value of $45,000 my trailer costs me $297/year for full coverage.  I did up my deductibles to $1,000 though.  (The month before my awning got taken off my trailer!  LOL .. i can laugh about that now.)

I'd say $1400 is out of this world.  With State Farm my trailer cost me almost $700 per year to insure and we thought that was nuts.

If you have a farm policy .. check with them first.  You can get some darned good rates on both truck and trailer with a farm policy.  My truck only costs me $526/year!

Insurance companies take a lot of factors into consideration to price insurance policies, such as credit history, driving record, and past claims.  Also, the premium is based on the price of the trailer.

You need to be very careful when insuring a horse trailer, make sure that the agent understands what you are insuring.  For example, some people think that as long as the truck is covered, the trailer is as well.  That is not true in most cases.  The liability coverage is extended, but NOT the comp & collision.  This is a common mistake.  If you finance your trailer, the bank will require comp & collision coverage.

Another thing to keep in mind is contents coverage. Some companies offer coverage on all of your contents, and as we all know, there can be a lot of money in those things.

The best way to decrease your premium is to raise your deductable.  Ask yourself, "Am I really going to turn in a claim under $500, $1000, etc.?"

The best advice comes from an informed agent.  For help with your trailer insurance along with all of your insurance needs, feel free to give LTT Insurance Agency a call toll free at 888-588-2877.  We write insurance in Ohio and Pennsylvania, and would be glad to give you a free quote.  We know trailers because we use them - we are horse people too!
