My family is with another truck and trailer 4 hours away. The 6 horse trailer has no brakes. The Drawtite brake controller is displaying OL. Its 9:28PM EST and they are stuck.

Tell them to call 1411 or dial 0 for an operator.  They should be a le to find help by calling a local wrecker that is equiped to hadle that load under those conditions.  They might also find help at a truck stop.  Some truck stops have mechanics 24/7 that should be able to offer some help.

Let us know how things turn out.

Still driving at slow speed looking for a truck stop. Found the manual on the web, OL means shorted or overloaded brakes. Troubleshoot using brake mfg instructions. Could a fuse be blown in the trailer or truck? The controller is a Drawtite activator 2.

Have them disconnect the trailer's electrical plug from the truck.  If the Drawtite still displays "OL" the problem is in the blue wire circuit of the brake controller / truck.

If the "OL" is displayed only when the trailer is plugged into the truck, the trailer brakes are shorted somewhere.  Check the trailer connector first. Then look for a brake wire touching the trailer frame somewhere.  Get someone to watch the display and someone else wiggle / move every wire they can see under the trailer.

We have the US Rider Equestrian Motor Plan. They would have been able to fix you or tow you. AAA will not touch a horse trailer or tow. Some thing you might want to check into. Good Luck

Not sure if AAA is teh same as CAA - but here if you buy the RV CAA package, they will haul your truck and trailer.

CAA is Canada, AAA is US. Both the same, and if you call, make sure you say horse or livestock trailer.

I think in a a previous thread it was stated that triple A with RV is OK unless/until you say "1 ton", "Dual rear wheels", "Duallie", "Dually", "Dooley"... however your tongue was installed. I think this was the difference with USRider, though I still havn't checked.

I think AAA and CAA are essentially the same and have some sort of reciprocity (even if I can't spell it) for their members who cross the great frosty border.

Hopefully the brakes problem is solved/resolved ?

LOL - Well I knew that  But you never know if they offer the same services. It was actually the tow truck guy that hauled my truck in for a new fuel pump that told me about it - my truck is a 3/4 ton and he asked what we did with it - then he told us about the RV program.
