I bought a bumper pull stock trailer to move my horse 1200 miles. It has a cut gate just in front of the first tire. I'm planning on putting my horse in the back half, knowing that he will ride with his butt up against the cut gate, and therefore have his weight over the wheels. But I have people telling me he needs to be up front. Otherwise the trailer will fishtail and the tongue will come off the hitch. The front is rounded and a smaller space. During a short trial, where he was loose in the whole thing, he seem to not know where he could lean against. And every horse trailer that I've seen has the tack room in the front. Will the trailer pull okay with him in the bigger back half?

As the cut gate is over the front axle... the single horse will be to the rear. If he moves to the back of the trailer, this will be the worst trailer loading. Unless you load enough cargo in the front (at least the same weight ,better to be much more) of the horse) You risk a terrible sway and loss of control. Don't do it... Load the horse in the front.
