Subject: adjusting dividers in slant load

I just recently got a new circle J outback 3 horse slant load trailer that has adjustable dividers in it. I am not sure whether I should leave the dividers as wide as they will go or adjust them so the dividers are closer to my horse's sides. Is it better for the horse to have more room or to have support from the dividers being closer to them? As they are right now, there isn't tons of extra room but I could definitely adjust them so they are smaller. Any opinions on this?
