Hello all,
Got a question about acid washing an all aluminum trailer. Last year in June we purchased a 94 Sundowner with extruded aluminum sides on the bottom and unpainted bright top portions. It had been raining much of the month prior to this. When we got this trailer home we wanted to get it looking it's best so we acid washed it and it looked real good ti'll it dried.As the trailer dried it took on a rusty appearance. We tried this several times with the same results ti'll finally we washed it,then dryed it with a towel at the same time having a fan blowing on it to speed the drying. This done the trick but have been reluctant to acid wash again because of this. My only guess was alot of minerals in the city water due to the abundent rainfall prier to this. Anyone else with any idea's?

To the best of my knowledge, acid washing brings all or at least a lot of the bad stuff that is "hiding" in the aluminum and brings it straight to the surface, so that is why shiny aluminum will become white after acid washing. that is also why when you want to polish aluminum, you should have it acid washed first so you can get the best finish on the polish job as possible.
