But yah I suspect your 3/4 ton wouldn't be enough 16,000lbs empty adding 3 horses - at least 3000lbs - tack 200lbs - water....bla bla bla - you'd likely be pushing 20,000lbs. That I'm pretty sure that's well over the payload of most 3/4 tons - but check your weights (and check to make sure if that 16,000lbs is with the LQ - I suspect it is - but ck to be sure).

R&J ... Ford may call it a one ton, But your SRW truck doesn't have the carrying capacity of a dually. Check the payload numbers of your truck. The payload number has to be more than the hitch weight will be. Otherwise, your truck and safety will suffer.

You are right. The ( gross combined vehicle weight ) rating for a ford 350 is 23500 lbs.
I have a 14ft lq, 4 horse - 4 Star. I bought a new Ford 350 duelly to pull it. I chipped it, put on a 4 inch exhaust, etc. and it still labors ( Stability, braking ) and it makes funny nosies ( tranny ? ) sometime when pulling up grades.
In my state the Highway Patrol is starting to crack down on trucks that are over weight. You get pulled over and checked they will park you until someone ( bigger ) can come and haul you home. Not fun when you have horse with you.
GCVW is the weight of the truck ( a Ford 350 duelly weighs about 7800 lbs ) and the trailer. If you have a trailer that weighs 16000 lbs add in a horse or two or three or more at say 1100 lbs each, tack, water, the poeple in the truck etc. and you will fine that your way over the limit of the truck.
I had to buy a new truck just to be safe and legal. My choise was a new M2 Freightliner. It's a great rig, plenty of power, more stability that you can amagin and lots of room.

You should pull a trailer like that with an F450. It is quite a difference from the F350 and worth the upgrade. Plus, the F450 actually has a 12' shorter turning radius!

umm, IF the empty weight is 16000 then like MBRA said start adding horses, tack, etc it could easily hit 20000 loaded. that only leaves room for a 6000 pound truck before you say CDL.
however the way i read the ad it said it has 2 8000# axles.......that means to me a trailer GVWR of 16000. so with the trailer loaded to the max the pin weight would be in the 3700# region. i shouldnt think it would actually "squash" a SRW 1 ton but i dont doubt it would be over the max limit. anyone have the GVWR/GCWR for a SRW 350?
i do like how farmbabe thinks though, dont be afraid of max GCWR.

Yah but my Chev 2500 weighed in at 6500lbs - but again - you need to check the weights to be sure.

I think one important factor has been overlooked! That 16,000 is the GVW, not empty!. We have a friend with a Bloomer with med tack, slide out, the whole 9 yards, and her max GVW is 16K. Not sure of the empty weight, I don't think they put that on the VIN tag (they need to!) She used to pull it with her 3500 Chevy dually, no problems but she was always very, very close to the 20K max GCWR. With that and she travels out of state quite a bit she decided not to take the chance and got herself a sterling to pull with.
