We are interested in going to Hocking Hills. If anyone has been and know of a good place to camp please let me know. We're hoping to go this fall. Thank you so much.

There is a state horse camp, but its primitive.  One we have stayed at is Three Reasons.  We stayed in the primitive area but they have prepared sites with a shower room etc also.  The riding at hocking is really scenic.  Marty.

Thanks Marty. Primitive is okay, did you picket your horses? I know a lot of these places have stalls available but I'd rather picket and have my horses with me. Les

Hi Traillady,

Some friends of mine just stayed at 3 Reasons for the first time a couple weekends ago, and we've just made plans to go there with them in October.

They said 3 Reasons is very nice, bathrooms and shower facilities are immaculate and cleaned each day.  From what I understand there are only about 8 full hookup sites at $25/night.  This includes 2 nice stalls in a barn for your horses.  (And from what I understand, the barn is very close to the campsites.)

There is also a cabin you can rent for about $132/night including tax, and you have pasture turnout for your horses but no stalls.  The cabin is fully furnished, 2 BR, Satellite TV/DVD player, the works.

My friend also said you ride out and are immediately in Hocking Hills, and start seeing the pretty scenery immediately.

Can't wait to see it with my own eyes!

The Three Reasons has a primitive area also, thats where we usually stay.  You must provide your own highline (there are plenty of trees to tie off to) or I have seen people string up some electric fence, you might want to check with Three Reasons to be sure the fence is still OK.  The state park horsecamp has tie racks in each campsite, no stalls.  Its strictly primitive, pit toilet and hand pump for water.  Pretty spot though.  We always primitive camp so both work for us.  Hocking has some of the most scenic riding in the US, just not a lot of it.  Marty.

We are checking into going to Hocking Hills also! I was just looking and found a place called Palmerosa's. They seem to have everything from primitive to fancy with stalls. Has anyone stayed there??

We were camping in HH last spring. GREAT trails, we lucked out finding someone who knew the trails so we got a guided tour! The main trails are marked, but all the side trails are marked with a white blaze no matter which trail it is so that got confusing. There are huge rock canyons, cliffs, a place called Fat Man's Squeeze and many awesome rock formations. Three Reasons is nice, there is not a barn but some very nice covered stalls. The state horse camp looked to be very nice, I have heard that it fills up fast.

I camped at a place called 3 Reasons Campgrounds that allowed us to ride right into the park.  They have a primitive camping area and also a very nice area with bunkhouses and stalls along with a great shower facility.
