Is horse trailer insurance required by the law in California? If so what are some good trailer insurance companies? Thanks, Andrew

I don't know about it being a law in California but it sure is a good idea to have, if only for peace of mind. I had a trailer that was insured and had a horse do some damage to the horse area and roof and only paid my deductable of $100 vs. $600 in damage. Your post just reminded I need to inform my insurance carrier of my new purchase!

The basic liability extends to the trailer "while it's on the truck".  I got full coverage for my trailer so it covers theft, hail, some uninsured idiot driving through my fence and hitting it, (almost!!)  and everything else.  It's not a new trailer and I was only able to get full coverage because it is financed.  But now that it's there, I'm keeping it.  Especially since I live on a corner and people do 80 down this road with loaded cattle trailers.  They go even faster with out the trailer!

For horse trailer insurance, try the Creelman agency.  Website is www.creelman.com.

I'm not sure about state to state requirements on insurance however its fairly cheap and worth having!  I was going to take it off my trailer when it was pd off and my agent (who is a friend) talked me into keeping it on.  Needed less to say I was on my way home the other weekend and my awning was ripped off.  $1100 awning I replaced for my deductable $250  insucance pd the rest.  Definitly a good idea in my opinion!

If the trailer is financed, it is required to have insurance on it. I have yet to see a finance company that does not require it. I had one financed and had to have insurance. Only costs me $60.00 a year. Well worth the piece of mind.
