I would think having a correct diagnosis on the net would be nearly impossible. I would do one of two(if not both)things:Have the horse looked over by a vet that specializes in foot and laminitus work.Have the horse seen by the most qualified farrier you can find.

Thanks, been there done that, didn't get anything but speculation. Not looking for on line diagnosis, Dah. Just wanting to discuss it. Thanks for your reply anyway.

Maybe a second opinion is in store? Otherwise try looking in www.myhorsematters.com or www.horsecity.com. I think they have a ask the vet. But remember without the online veterinarian seeing your horse's condition he really(legally)can't make an accurate diagnosis and if he's smart enough he won't. He will only offer suggestions as to what may be your horse's condition. I only think you will be back to square one with your horse by going online to find answers.

Good luck to you!

How often is "re-occuring"? And how evasive is it. Being from Arizona your problem could be from deep cracks formed because the frog is to dry. If this is the case, there needs to be more trimming of the frog making the cracks open up and easier to clean. Is there bleeding when you clean the hooves? Is there swelling? Have you done a senitivity check? Maybe a very small stone is lodged in the frog. And sometimes it just takes time to heal with proper treatment.

Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital has a nice website.

If you are having trouble with dry hooves, you might wish to try coating the hoof over and under with neatsfoot oil.  We have also used plain vegie oil but think the other works a little better.  As far as thrush, we use Happy Jack Pad Kote, its for dogs and horses, and I used it on a mare who had very shelly feet in order to toughen up her soles.  Well something worked there.  That mare also gets 4 flax seed oil capsules daily. if you wish email me at cloudfarms@netzero.com

Hope this is somewhat helpful

Hey, if you're still looking for a great website, try Horseman's Advisor.  There is a vet on staff, who is actually the forum moderator.  Link is as follows:

http://www.horseadvice.com

There is a HUGE section on horse health/vet advice.  In fact, probably 80% of this website is about it.  It also has great legal advice.  Good luck!

I had forgotten about Horsemen's Advisor, it really is a great source.
As it turns out my horse got steroid injections in the hocks and back and he is fine now. He had fallen down while playing and had complications from that. Thrush all gone too.
