Hi all,
First post and thanks for the ad! So, I just bought my first stock trailer. Its a 1977 Hale. Its a 16'. Unfortunately, it has three different sizes of tires on it. On the axles there are three 215-85 R16 (10-ply) and one P245-70 R16. The spare is a 265-75 R16 (10 ply).
The tires on the axles appear to fit and work. I haven't tried the spare on yet. What size should be on this?
Also, I have a lead on some 235-85 R16's (10 ply) that would be free from a friend. Do you think these would fit?
Many thanks and I look forward to talking with you all.

Back in '77, I am fairly certain your trailer would have rolled with a 7.50-16 nylon tire in a 8 ply rating. You'll be hard pressed to find that tire now as technology has taken us much farther. At one time, the 215/85R16 was considered the replacement for that tire, but now we hardly see that one much either. If it were mine, I'd find a 235/80(or 85 which will be a touch taller)R16 and use them. Easy to find, Me- I'm partial to a LT (truck tire) rather than an ST (special trailer tire) . But not everyone agres with that.

RTSmith knows what he speaks of. I use. 235-85R16 LT’s. I will never use an ST tire on my trailers, they may have stiffer side walls but they tend to build up heat, the heat build up can be deadly when coupled with hot roads and summer driving. You know, the time of the year we usually pull our horses around.
I had ST tires on my 4 horse 10’LQ when I got it. Took it across country in July. The ST tires ran 30* hotter than the drive axle tires. We disposed of those tires when we got home.
