Here is my story;
I bought a trailer in OK in 2005, I understood then that in OK there are no taxes or tags for horse trailers. I was living in OK at the time. I moved to KS and never tagged my trailer here, honestly don't shame me, I didn't know I had to. I have be using this horse trailer for years in and out of state & never a question, why no tag? I have even been pulled over 3 or 4 times in KS and was never asked why my trailer wasn't tagged. Also I might add, when I bought the trailer it had no living quarters, it does now. So now I know I need the trailer tagged, are there going to be penalties? is it gonna cost me a bundle? How might I go about this.

Oklahoma must have different laws than us. I live in Louisiana and I have a friend that went to Oklahoma and bought a new trailer with living quarters. He licensed it in Oklahoma and paid no taxes in either state. He still has a permanent license plate from Oklahoma and has paid zero taxes

Things have also changed over time. I'm in Tenn and for many years horse trailers were tax exempt for everyone. No more. So if you waited til now to do the title, you get to pay tax. Also years ago you could often title with proof of ownership. Now they want it to have been properly titled all through the chain of custody, which can be hard to do. So if nothing else I've learned from some friends' experiences, do the title work ASAP. It will always be easiest then. And never buy a trailer on a promise the owner will get you a title.
In your case, take all of your ownership paperwork and go to the same office you get tags for your truck. That is the place you'll start to get title & tag.
