I just bought a1996 Logan Coach two-horse. It has a similar set up. There are springs on both sides. They work amazingly well - just really easy up and down. In looking for parts, I noticed that Logan Coach Parts website has replacement springs. I don't know if the size will be the same, but it's worth looking. I think the website is "oldlogancoach" .

Well, it's not a link. I could not paste. I tried several options and none worked. The above is what appears in the address bar.
They do have the springs for about $35 each.
And, Like Kay said above, it does not look like it would work. But, it does on my trailer. It is really quite amazing how well it works. Looking at it, I can't figure out why.
