I have a Cato classic with painted aluminum skin on the body and bare aluminum trim. I attempted to remove one of the vinyl stripes from the body (painted aluminum skin) and ended up getting all the way down to the bare aluminum underneath...i.e. the stripe is gone and so is the paint. Is there any way to remove striping from painted aluminum skin without removing the paint too?! Kinda freaking out:(

You can try heating up the striping with a heat gun ( expensive hair drier )    A hair drier may not get hot enough.   They also make striping remover pads that go on a drill -  will probably damage the paint though.   It all depends on how good of an adhesion the paint has to the metal and unfortunately you found out it is not very good.   You can always cover the bare spot with new vinyl stripes.

That aluminum skin was likely NOT painted. It came from Alcoa or wherever with the colored or white finish already on it. Painting aluminum requires lots of prep and knowledge.
