I have a 2001 Merhow Equistar bumper pull. Dry weight is 2800 lbs. I have one horse (around 1100 pounds) and may on occasion trailer a second. I currently have a 2009 F150 that has been plenty capable hauling it.
I just had a baby and am looking for a more family friendly daily driver than my truck. I am looking for a Suburban but am having trouble finding a used, reasonably priced one with a tow package.
There is a used 2016 Expedition close by that has a heavy duty trailer package. The tow weight capacity looks good but is the wheelbase long enough? It is 119" where my truck is 136" and a suburban is 130".
Thanks for any help, we have been agonizing over this!

If you will be hauling regularly you will want the longer wheelbase of the XL (Expedition) as the shorter ones don't tow longer tag-a-long trailers well. The gas mileage is the same and you get extra leg room and room for storage after the third row of seats. I have a Navigator L and wouldn't hesitate to tow my little two horse with it if my truck and big trailer were busy.
