Hello all,
The water pump for our barn has frozen up and we are worried about hand-carrying water every now and then. Does anyone here know any tips to unfreeze the pumps and pipes?? I found few tips online ( http://www.brothersplumbing.ca/blog/frozen-pipe/pipes-freeze-brothe... ) but I was not able to completely unfreeze it. Now we don't have adequate water for our household works too. It will be of great help if you could share some suggestions based on your experience in unfreezing the pumps and pipes. Thanks in advance.

Are you talking about a hydrant (that connects to a hose) or the actual electric well pump that supplies water ?

don't think u can add any chemicals to it, my father used to use electric blanket on the pipes to warm it up, took a long time though

To keep your pipes from freezing, you need to have water flowing through them at all times. Choose the coldest period of the day and let the water flow slightly from the faucet during this period.
