A friend of mine wants to trade her 4 Star trailer for another at a dealer's. Since KY doesn't require trailer registration she's never bothered to register it. She has the original bill of sale but never had a title. She bought the trailer 7 yrs ago from a dealer who apparently never had a title either and now that dealership is out of business. The company she's dealing with now won't take hers in trade w/ out a valid title (naturally). My question - how hard is it to apply for a replacement title? where should she start? she's called the KY DMV and they can't help her from the VIN # b/c apparently it was registered in another state and they can only look up KY. She's calling 4 Star as well. Thanks!

Who had the title,if she didn't pay cash and the dealer didn't? If it was new,the dealer wouldn't have had a title anyway- just a manufacturers certificate of origin which she should have gotten when she bought it.if it was financed- the lender has it.

I would think the dealer she got it from would have had to have gotten a clear title on one they were reselling.most dealers won't take an item requiring titles in in a trade without one.
