I really would like to tile the countertop. Has anyone had experience with this? Is flex an issue? Heat and cold? Anything else I need to consider?

I have tile counter tops in my real kitchen and would never use tile again because it is too fragile and the uneven surface is more difficult to clean.  I think the trailer ride would be very hard on a tile top.

I would never put tile in my horse trailer. Besides the cleaning issue and could easily break, it is also heavier. I am looking at going the lightest possible when doing mine.

The weight of tile would be a major issue for me, too. Now, if you are using a Freightliner to haul your 24' short wall LQ, then have at it.

Flexibility is also an issue. I love tile, and am soooo close to Mexico where I can get all kinds off cool tile cheap. But if you have some ideas for tile, I would suggest finding a way to use the tiles as an accent. By the way, there is a very cool store here in Austin that has WONDERFUL western-horsy tiles, including long narrow pieces with a barbed wire design, and in my next house I WILL have some of the tiles. The name of the company is Travis Tile - don't know if they have a Web site - but you could call them and ask for a brochure. I'm telling you the tiles I saw in their brochure were fantastic if you are looking for a horsy-Western theme. Their number is (512) 478-8705. And no, I don't work for them - I'm just another horse-stuff-crazy consumer. Oooh, you've got me thinkin' now.

Oops, Dawnya -  I just looked at where you are, and you're just around the corner from Austin. So Travis Tile is not too far if you're gonna be down around the Austin area anyway. Really - check it out - the tiles are very cool.

Thanks Tigger! Have any idea if they are online?
I only have a 4' SW and the counter top is maybe
2' of good tiling space (sink on one side).
I was thinking of making an abstract mosaic spur design.
Something simple. I may just have to call around
on a few dealerships and ask about their tile countertops -
see if they are really ceramic? If not, the second option is a smooth sheet of aluminum.

On a counter top that small, I don't think that weight or flex is going to be a problem. Make that counter top your way!

I know that when used as a back splash, regular tile works well. But instead of grout, it has to be mounted in an epoxy setting of some type. The RV industry uses it often, but went through a lot of pain to perfect it.

Hey - here's the Travis Tile Web site, but it is in design and so far only has their contact information. But it is www.travistile.com. Their phone no. is (512) 478-8705. If you are interested, you could call and ask them to mail you a brochure. Ooooh, baby, baby, if you used those cool horse/western tiles as a back splash it would be soooo neat! As I remember, the color of the tile is a white-ish limestone color, with the image (star, horse, barbed wire, etc.) the same color. But several of the examples showed the raised image painted a different color, so THAT is also something fun to do that adds to the possibilities.

Hey, Dawnya - You're not going to Las Colinas Equestrian Center Nov. 12-14 for the Clinton Anderson clinic, by any chance, are you? I'm coming up there and could bring samples of the tiles and a brochure with me. Travis Tile is on my way home from work. Happy to do it if you're interested, but you could probably get TT to do it for you as well.

Oops my computer got stuck so my message may post twice - these new-fangled things!

Travis Tile is www.travistile.com. Their phone no. is (512) 478-8705. Their Web site is in design, so it only gives contact info now. Using the tiles as a backsplash would be very cool. Now, these tiles would not be good for a countertop because the wester/horsey image is raised. They come in a white-ish limestone color, with the image (horse, star, barbed wire, etc.) in the same color, but in the brochure I saw they also pictured some where the image had been painted and those were exceptional.

Dawnya - I will be coming to Las Colinas Equestrian Center for the Clinton Anderson Tour on Nov. 12 - 14. If you are going, or are anywhere near there, I could go by TT and get sample tiles and a brochure and bring them with me. They are on my way home from work. I'm happy to do it if that helps you. They can probably send you the brochure - don't know how they handle tile samples.

We tiled the countertop yesterday.  No grout yet in this pic as the 'cove adhesive' has to set.  Will grout today.  The objective was a soft, abstract mosaic spur.  We're tickled on how it turned out!
